If we had went for it from the first kick

It doesn't matter if it's a 4-3-3 or 4-5-1, Boyd can't play upfront on his own.

As for as the Walter bashing it seems that the players are getting off a bit lightly here too.

Yes Walter set up for a draw, but the players also looked happy enough to settle for that.

No passion, no desire, no decent tempo.......they looked like they weren't bothered.

I thought once again Bougherra was the only one who looked like he actually wanted the three points. Made a number of good runs forward, even if the shots he produced weren't so great.

In a 433 he wouldn't be

He would still have to play a similar role to what he would in a 4-5-1 and he doesn't have the capabilities to do that.

He would?

4 - 3 - 3

As far as i remember, that involves 3 strikers, meaning we'd have Naismith, Novo, Miller, Fleck beside him, further up the pitch with him.

Compared to 4 - 5- 1 where everyone is behind him and the only striker help he got was Novo for the last 20 minutes today.

That's a fair point. Davis did look like he was desperate to get the ball & run on with it in the latter stages, but too little too late. Another thing I like about Bougherra is he can actually play the game, unlike Wier & Broadfoot. Wier either just lumps the ball 30-40 yards away to get shot of the ball or he gets caught in possesion. Broadfoot is not bad when he gets near the by-line, but how often is he getting that far up front these days?

Just because the wide players are 15 yards furthur up the park it doesn't mean Boyd could just neglect what is required of a central striker in that system.

He would still be expected to drop into "the hole" to pick up the ball and create space for midfield runners, hold players off with his back to goal, work the channels and generally try to rough up the opposition defence.

He isn't capable of playing as the focal point on his own like that.
