Scottish referee John Beaton was given an armed security guard in Saudi Arabia after being headbutted in derby match in Riyadh.

Beaton was the man in the middle at the match between Al Hilal and Al Nasr after the Saudi FA contacted their Scottish counterparts to request officials for the high-profile calls.

The Scottish FA sent Beaton, along with assistant referees Stuart Stevenson and Douglas Ross to officiate the powderkeg tie, and it proved to be a fiery affair.

He showed eight yellow cards and three red cards, one of which was for the headbutt.

STV understands the Scottish ref was given extra security as he left the Saudi capital for the UK.
