  1. When you assess his signing six months on then you can only conclude that it has been utterly pointless. I think that in our current financial situation, we simply can't afford to spend money on players that won't go straight into the first team. I'd rather we kept players like Steven Lennon or Rory Loy, gave them more first team opportunities and let them develop as footballers than simply go out and sign players with no long-term future at the club like Andrius Velicka or Jean-Claude Darcheville. Even if they never took their chance when they got it, then at least they would have had it that way.
  2. If Lee Wilkie ever signs for us,I'm pretty sure it will only take a couple of games for you to change your opinion on him. He's not a bad CB muff. He's not bad, but he's still a fair bit away from being good. Ideally, we should be aiming for a much higher standard of footballer. It's a sad fact that the vast majority of Scottish footballers aren't good enough, and after seeing the likes of Cuellar and Boumsong and their success at the club I would rather we went European again. Celtic were linked with Tamas or Goian in the summer and I can't see why we couldn't go for them ourselves.
  3. There's nothing wrong with selling your best players, as long as you're in a constant cycle of replacing them to an acceptable or even higher standard. It's the only viable way forward for Rangers as a club. Unfortunately though, we don't have the right people in place to maximise its potential as the future of our club.
  4. I think the last thing that we need right now is another mediocre SPL player.
  5. Bumped with fifty posts. Anyone? Cheers if you can manage it. A request from a few pages back, a half Scottish half Rangers background with Thomson, Stevie Smith, Hutton and Naismith on it if possible.
  6. He's not worth what they're wanting for him so I wouldn't be happy were we to spend so much on him. There's better players out there who will also be cheaper alternatives. I'd rather bring back McCormack than this guy, neither were good enough first time round and it's debatable as to whether they are now, at least McCormack has a good few years ahead of him to get better. Robson's peaked in my opinion and won't get any better moving here.
  7. I don't rate him when he plays for Scotland but we'll see how he does week in, week out at a club like Rangers if he signs. I don't see any quotes from Smith and I've learned to never accept these transfer rumours as fact until they're paraded at Auchenhowie and it's on the official site. He won't be that bad, but he won't that good either. An unispiring signing if ever there was one. I'd rather we sought out the long-term successor to Weir, which I don't think for a second Dailly would be given he's pish and pushing mid-thirties, and would prefer if the money to be spent here on wages would go to signing a younger player if only on loan to see how they do initially. We don't appear to have much of a scouting network but I seen we were linked with a young Finnish player. I'd prefer it if we put more faith into youngsters like Chris Smith for example or this young foreign kid rather than signing Dailly. We'll see how he does but I'm not expecting much. If you're expecting disappointment then you can only be pleasently surprised...or correct.
  8. Good luck to him, I'll remember his goal against them fondly and try and rid my memory of everything else. Not good enough but a decent stop-gap signing.
  9. I don't see the point of this from a footballing perspective. He's not that good as a defensive midfielder or in defence. Infact he's no better than the likes of Broadfoot or Webster certainly who are already here. We need a long-term replacement for Weir and that should be a priority. Not another squad player like Dailly. However, he's a model professional who keeps himself in good shape. He's a good role model for the youngsters at the club to look up to. He's probably going to give those with less ability hope aswell...because if he can forge a career then so can they!
  10. Exactly. When it comes to Scotland I don't care about the fact he's a Celtic employee and former manager just that he clearly isn't suited to to the job. I'd rather see someone like Souness given the chance - I think he'd thrive in international management and so many countries these days are employing national legends for managerial posts and doing well out of it I like to think Souness could do the same for us.
  11. I think the squad is about as good as you'll get without a rotational policy. If we had more "good" players then they couldn't all be kept satisfied. My only concern is in the central of defence where if we lose either Cuellar or Weir we're relying on Webster who hasn't played once and a relatively untested Kirk Broadfoot. With Ehiogu merely a stop gap we need someone to come in and play alongside Cuellar. Whether this transfer window is the right time to bring someone in I'm not sure. I'd like to see Chris Smith break into the first team squad and see how he does.
  12. Maloney and McManus are alright. Saves time going through all of them I can't stand.
  13. Don't they have some sort of protection over the pitch though? I'm sure it'll go ahead - they cant't risk any more fixture congestion surely.
  14. I think a loan deal would be the best thing to do right about now. See how he gets on, if he impresses bring him back and his chance will come. Who here would have predicted Burke's return a few weeks ago? Adam's inclusion against Celtic? If they're the best option available then Smith will give them a chance. Until we're devoid of any other ideas then I can't see any reasons why we shouldn't loan him out for the rest of the season if he isn't likely to start. He's only mid-twenties, he's still got plenty of time to establish himself at Ibrox. If he's patient he'll get his chance.
  15. I think that only in Scotland would we be arguing over the inclusion of someone like Miller over Boyd. It seems we're happy enough with our strikers so long as they put in the effort to chase down lost causes and close down opposition defences. I think I'd rather bring back Sebo than sign Miller - and I'm not much of a Sebo fan! I'd rather have someone like Boyd who will get you goals than Miller who won't. It's as simple as that.
  16. Wattereus was almost like a sweeper back there at times he was so good with the ball at his feet! McGregor is a good goalkepeer. He hasn't been around long enough to equal the successes of the likes of Goram, Woods and Klos but who knows how he'll improve as he gets more experience. This is only his second season at Rangers in the first team and his first was certainly a turbulant one - though he still managed to impress during it. I'm sure his statistics were better than those of Boruc last season aswell despite being in the weaker side and with eleven clean sheets in Europe to his name so far I can't say I agree with those who aren't too sure about him. He's got weaknesses, every player has, but his strengths more than make up for them. For those who don't rate him remember that if he wasn't at Rangers and playing for any other SPL side we'd probably be clambouring to get him signed. I certainly rate him above Gordon and Boruc anyway.
  17. Gretna 0-2 Rangers First goal scorer: Naismith (x2)
  18. What exactly has Burns done to deserve the job? He was there making as many mistakes as Vogts during his time as manager as his assitant. He wasn't deemed good enough to replace Walter when he left, he wasn't deemed good enough to take over after Vogts so what's changed now? We aren't desperate. Souness and Burley would be my preferable choice.
  19. How long has it felt like since we last played a game! Anyway, hope we continue our good form with a good result here. Gretna ran Celtic close, they'll be up for it and I don't think it will be as easy as some people are suggesting. I think we'll have more than enough to secure the win though. Are there any injuries/suspensions to worry about?
  20. Great news - can't wait to see him back in the first team.
  21. This is fast becoming a joke. These postponed games are mounting up. If we're building another Ibrox then the first thing we better do is build a fucking roof. I can't understand how the games like the one against Aberdeen a while back go ahead and others are called off.
  22. I was watching it on the TV but I was proud of those who were still there come the 90th minute because I know I would have been there aswell.
  23. From what I have heard about Fleck apparently he likes to play behind another forward player as a floating second striker. This role is similar to the one Wayne Rooney occupies for both England and Manchester United so hopefully that's where the comparisons between the two come from - and not just because they have a similar body frame. If he's half as good as Rooney then that will be another bonus. I'm trying to go tomorrow, and I imagine there are many more like me, because this is hopefully the first time we'll see him play having heard of him for so long. I actually went to the under 19's final at Hampden and I was impressed with his role in the win. I hope he's half as good as the hype would suggest and he can deal with it. It's easy to stand out in the younger and reserve levels - Pele said Gary Bollan was one of the best player he'd seen at his age and McSwegan and Spencer were scoring an amazing amount in the reserves. We'll see how he copes with the transition into a first team player at Ibrox. Here's hoping we're saving ourselves a lot of money in the transfer market if he's the link between midfield and attack we need. He could also be sold on at some point in the future - a lot of teams are interested at a young age and I'm sure they'll be interested in seeing how he develops at Ibrox. Good luck to him - he was quite clearly delighted to win the under 19's Scottish cup for Rangers and I'm sure he'll experience it with the first side aswell if all goes well.
