  1. Brilliant! I have strong memories of the 67 final V Bayern, my teacher, Roger Hynd played in the game! Despite being a Centre Half, we played him up front and lost 1 - 0. I remember my Dad saying that Alex Willoughby should be playing, but I wanted our PT teacher to play in the game. Apparently he threw his loser's medal into the crowd! Thanks for the link!
  2. Colin Stein - outstanding, probably the best ever start to a Rangers career Negri was a real predator Jimmy Millar, Jim Forrest, Ralph Brand from my childhood were all pretty good Mols was very good, as was Hateley & McCoist, especially as a pair. If you take on pure goals scored, McCoist gets it. So I guess it must be Peter Van Vossen!
  3. I am married to a Hull lass and therefore take an interest. Most Hull fans think he is lazy and has no passion for the club or the game, sounds familiar?
  4. Gordon Smith, George Burley or whichever blazer at the SFA made the decision to can Ferguson & MacGregor should have had the balls to tell them to their faces. Anyone in management should know that you should always deliver bad news face to face. That is the point Ferguson is making, not whether the punishment fitted the crime or that he knows and admits he was wrong. That isnt blaming the SFA for what happened, it is pointing out that the handling of the affair was very poor. Aren't we lucky to have such esteemed leaders in charge of our national team in our national sport?
  5. It gave Walter a chance to try "European" tactics and give him a few ideas for the Champions league, but to me it doesn't matter. I agree with Robbo from the BBC blog - "Vegetarian sausages, alcohol-free lager, silicone implants, football friendlies... all one and the same to me". We will find out when the real thing starts, then we will have Pork & Leek, Special Brew, Big Naturals and proper games!
  6. McCulloch played well against PSG, but I could have done the same job on the day. I am not having a go at McCulloch, but with no-one challenging, he could wander around thinking he is Ronald Koeman. let us see how composed he is when he has someone like Scott Brown snapping at his heels. If he cuts the mustard then, brilliant. Tompson looks a bit rusty and I really hope he gets back to where he was.
  7. No its not, be careful as god is watching you. very good!
  8. Religion, all religion is bollocks. I am by birth a Protestant and a Scot. From an early age I was a Gers fan. After seeing many deaths in the name of religion, some of them up close, I dont like religion. I am still a Gers fan!
  9. Both are good, but not in the class of Woods, Goram or Klos. MacGregor is a very good shot stopper and Alexander probably better at positioning and distribution, but not much between them. In the end, the man in possesion needs to make an arse of it to lose out, so Alexander stays. Good problem to have though!
  10. Most of us agree that we need a centre half, but we are skint, so no joy. However, we have Whittaker, Bougherra, Weir, Papac, Broadfoot and Smith, as well as youngsters like Wilson and Andy Webster out on loan. Perhaps walter thinks that is cover enough, as Whittaker can play either side, Broadfoot can play anywhere across the back and papac is capable of playing at Centre half. there is also McCulloch as emergecy cover. Personally, I think we are still a bit short, but an arguement could be made for those players providing cover. Mind you, watching Eduardo, willshere et al slicing us open at will was really scary.
  11. Ferguson deserves a mention as he practically carried the club for a couple of seasons. John Greig is the REAL legend, but there are plenty of others. Essentially, the poll is unfair as it is difficult to compare players over different eras. I will never forget Gazza, Laudrup, Gough et al. I grew up with Caldow, Henderson (brilliant), Baxter(class). The goal machines, Stein, Forrest, McCoist & Negri. The real gem for me, and an honour to watch was Ronald De Boer. Oozing class and the effect he had on the likes of Ferguson was awesome. Good Luck Mr Ferguson and thanks for all you did at ibrox
  12. Colin Stein was my first hero and as a very young kid, was part of my favourite joke at the time: The good, the bad & the ugly: Colin Stein, Jock Stein & Frankenstein His impact in his first 3 games was incredible, 2 hat tricks and a brace.
  13. Let us be honest, it was a very stupid thing to do. The sad thing for Lafferty is that he is developing into a decent player and by demonstrating one of the worst behaviours currently ruining football, he will probably always be remembered for it. anyone who thinks cheating is normal is not a football fan, but a blinkered idiot
  14. Kenny Miller earns a living from playing football, nothing more, nothing less. It doesn't matter who he plays for, he gives everything he has all the time. No-one in the Rangers squad has more commitment than Miller. You need to learn to accept that and cut him some slack. His goals and effort have been a major part of the championship bid, his goal on Saturday ensured that we are 2 points clear going into the last game If you support Rangers, then support the team and get behind them instead of making bitter and twisted comments.
  15. ..... and there would STILL be people on here complaining about the team and demanding Walter Smith & Sir David Murray to go!
  16. Quite agree! We should NEVER be criticising the team in public.
  17. Losing 3 - 0 to a team ranked third in the world in their stadium. A goal chalked off for blocking the keeper and a goal conceded when the Scotland keeper was blocked. This is nothing to be ashamed of! Scotland were actually as good, if not better than the Netherlands for the first 30 minutes. Once they scored, the Dutch commanded the match. I am not sure what would have happened had Caldwell's goal stood, but the game would have been closer. No-one is denying that the best team won, but to dismiss the performance of Scotland as "pish" is not only harsh, it shows a very poor understanding of football. As to the lack of top players in the Scotland squad, the comments about coaching etc are part of it, but when I was a child in the 60s, we played football in the street all day and under sthe street lights till we had to go in. Today's children spend most of their time in front of a computer playing video games etc. They have instant excitement without expending energy. I believe this has a big part to play in it. The comment about "no ball games" is also partly correct, if amenities are not provided and it is easier to sit in your bedroom with a bottle of Buckie, a Pizza, a bit of blow and a video game than go out in the rain and kick a ball about, you will never get the numbers from which a pro will emerge.
  18. I quite agree, he would miss his Irn Bru and Caramac bar too much!
  19. You can call a female mate.. .. in australia I have always called my female and male friends "mate", it saves me trying to remember their names! Brilliant set of photos etc, really brilliant! Just spotted the "Rangers Players Story" - I remember having a copy of that for Christmas when I was a boy!
  20. We should not be on the backs of any players in a blue jersey, Scottish or not! Quote from this forum...........
  21. Sorry, cant agree with any of that! Check out the signature of one of our members, Eric Caldow (he was a hero of mine!). I totally agree with his sentiment, if not his choice of language! "In the words of Bill Struth: Anyone who slags off the team he supports is a cunt."
  22. I am old enough, but have been lucky enough to see Rangers since the 1960s. I remember the great days of Jim Baxter and Wee Willie Henderson, Eric Caldow & Bobby Shearer, John Grieg and Ronnie MacKinnon. I also remember the dark days of Celtic' nine in a row. I remember us under Scot Symon and Jock Wallace. Lots of good and bad days. I remember all 4 European finals (the first one is a bit vague!). I remember the really bad periods, when we were dreadful. We were not always the best. A lot of the supporters today grew up in the Souness era and 9 in a row. They scream "we deserve better" why? If we were always on top, then I would agree, but I still remember the dark days. Our most successful period in recent times has come under Sir David Murray and Walter Smith. But I am hearing some fans saying that Walter Smith cost us 10 in a row and is ruining Rangers. They also say that Sir David Murray has ruined Rangers by spending too much years ago and not enough now. They will never win. They will never please everybody. I dont remember people calling for David Murray's head when he said "For every £5 Celtic spend, I will spend £10". I dont remember too many people complaining when SDM brought Walter Smith back to "steady the ship" after the PLG experiment went wrong. If both of them walked away now, I wouldn't blame them. I would never want their lives. They have made mistakes and admitted them, but they have been good for the club much more than they have been bad for the club. This is part of something I wrote on another site. Your comments about the dark days bear this out!
  23. Aaron had his chance against Forfar and Hamilton and blew it. Fleck & Beasley had chances recently and blew it. Lafferty had his chance and took it. Edward is correct, they were not ready. With Bougherra out, Dailly was our cover (I know, it is sad, but that is what we had!). Have a think before you rant, it is quite amazing, it works!
  24. how can you blame Sir David Murray? He has funded the club in its' hour of need, writing off debt for us and putting a lot of money into the club. He has given it 20 years. he has also said that he will leave when the right person takes over. What is wrong with that? Look at Portsmouth, they get their Russian oligarch and he funds them enough to win the FA Cup and a crack at Europe. Now he is sytematically selling the players and they are teetering on the brink of collapse. He will no longer put money in. No-one will buy them, same as no-one will buy Rangers. Very soon, Sky & Setanta will have to cut the money they are ploughing into football. The superstars, Ronaldo, Gerrard et al will be looking for a new home. There will be penny pinching everywhere. because we need to get to the knockout stages of the Champions League to earn anything like the cash the teams at the bottom of the EPL get, our future is in the hands of European qualification. Kaunas haunts us, but think back to the glory days with Souness, when we almost went out to Shellbourne. It can happen easily. Sir David Murray is not to blame for where we are today. We win more than we lose, but like everyone else, we still lose the odd game. The ball is round. It is a shame that we just happened to lose a very important one. Keep an eye out for the decline in Champions League money too, as TV adertising revenue and sponsorship starts to flag. Sir David Murray has done all he can at the different times and economic situations he has found the club in. Why is he to blame? To be honest, I remember the crowd chanting for John Lawrence to leave many years ago. I was too young to understand it then and I dont understand why the current chairman is to blame now. Why all the aggressive comments for someone who has given so much to the club?
