  1. Not an OF game, but watched Scotland V Holland, World Cup 1978 (Archie Gemmill et al) on a 12V TV hooked up to a battery on the back of a Chieftain Tank!
  2. I am sure he will get a rousing reception from the boys! Regardless of what I think of him (little ginger twat), he is a born winner and will install that into the tims. Too late for the title though! This is a very important title, as it is the last direct place in the Champions League. So thanks Tony for a fabulous season!
  3. When he was ill in the League Cup Final and against Dundee Utd, we missed his creativity. We need palyers who can create things, and at the moment, he is the best in the league.
  4. I have been a Rangers fan since the days of Billy Ritchie. I remember Gerry Neef, Peter McLoy et al. For me the keepers we have had since my time in order of how good they were (top 10).......... 1. Chris Woods 2. Stefan Klos 3. Andy Goram 4. Allan MacGregor 5. Billy Ritchie 6. Peter McCloy 7. Erik Sorensen 8. Neil Alexander 9. Antti Niemi 10.Ronald Watereuss
  5. Some excellent funny comments! My favourite was at a friendly between Preston North End and Hearts (my mate is a PNE fan). Craig Gordon had been injured for 3 weeks, then he played one game and got injured again. The Hearts fans started singing to the tune of Jilted John........ "3 weeks out, 1 week in, Gordon is a tampon!"
  6. How about a picture of the players all piling on to Mo Edu after he scored and the comment "Now that's what I call a huddle!"
  7. must admit, normally I don't mind Charlie Nicholas. He often speaks his mind an doesn't always take the Celtic line. This time, his comments on Kyle Lafferty were the grumpy rant of a child whose favourite toy had been broken. He was not in the least happy, but he did mention that none of Celtic's "big players" didn't show up. Rangers are not a pretty side to watch, but are efficient and competent in defence and have a cutting edge, which is normally used to best effect on the break. Rangers are also a force of nature, sweeping all before them in domestic competition. It was summed up for me in one comment during the match today, a ball was pitched into the Rangers penalty area and David Weir took it out and passed it forward to Steven Davis. The commenator said "David Weir in complete control". My thoughts entirely!!!
  8. At the time I , like a load of other Rangers fans, was happy when David Murray took over. Over the years, I have heard chants about various Chairmen, as a boy I heard the fans singing "if you hate John Lawrence clap your hands!" and I didn't know who he was or what a chairman was either. Everything comes in cycles. New Chairman/Manager/Player - brilliant! Honeymoon period over, something goes wrong and they are the devil incarnate. It could be a lot worse, look at Portsmouth, and they get EPL TV money!
  9. The Allianz Arena in Munich - Awesome In the UK, the new Wembley and the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff are great. Twickenham is very good and as for small grounds, St Mary's in Southampton, The Madeski in Reading and Hull City's KC stadium. Croke Park in Ireland is really good as well
  10. The Auchtermuchty and District Stoat Botherer's Club
  11. GK Whittaker - Bougherra - Weir - Papac McCulloch - Thomson Beasley - Davis - Lafferty Miller
  12. I have recently seen lots of articles and comments about Steven Whittaker, how he excels in attack and gets goals, but is weak in defence. I think that also applies to Sasa Papac. Let me make this plain, I am not knocking Papac, Whittaker or any other Rangers player. Take a look at the goals Rangers have conceded this season (ok, I know it is not a lot), but look at Papac's contribution to those goals. He often leaves his man unmarked and ball watches, resulting in a few of the goals this season. Going forward, he, like Whittaker, is a real asset to the team. In matches against a few of the sides in the SPL, that is fine, but when we play the dark side, the defence needs to stay firm. Davie Weir has been an absolute rock, with the pace of Bougherra and Wilson helping him. Allan McGregor has been outstanding and as a unit the defence has been superb. If Papac stopped ball watching when defending and kept an eye on the man he is marking, we would have the best defensive record in Europe as opposed to the 3rd best! The contribution of all the defence has been very good, including Broadfoot & Smith as well as Whittaker, Bougherra, Weir, Papac & Wilson. The defensive duties in midfield of McCulloch & Thomson also deserve some credit. As the man said, forwards win games, defences win titles!
  13. First Rangers game, Rangers 3 Clyde 0 1969, no idea who scored. any ideas? First Scotland game, Scotland 0 USSR 2, 1967, ( Jim Baxter was the only Rangers player in the team) Lev Yashin played in goal for USSR. Denis Law was up front for Scotland
  14. interesting....... I think Caldwell & McManus going was a blow for us, but a bigger blow for them was McDonald (thanks for helicopter sunday) and Robson. Who knows how the new guys will perform and like a few others have said, "We welcome the chase"
  15. Haggis has been outlawed in the USA since the BSE outbreak. you forgot to mention the caramac bar!
  16. I am unsure what the qualifying criteria is, but if it is down to attitude, he should definitely be there. Considering he is not a Scot brought up in the blue fold, he shows the same passion as the ones who were, like the Ian Fergusons of this world. I believe that all Bluenoses would agree that that is the biggest compliment we could give the Wee Man, he is an honarary Scot!
  17. Wilson & Fleck are on relatively poor money at the moment. They have been offered a small improvement, but they are aware that if Rangers get a buyer, there may be an uplift in the offer and therefore they can wait. They are not yet leaving Ibrox or are they at the stsage where they can be approached by another club. If I was in their position, i owuld do the same, ie wait & see
  18. Been to Scottish Cup, FA Cup and DeutchePokal finals, all brilliant days out.
  19. I have been hit by a squash ball, it bloody hurts! The ball causes a "suction wound", a painful bruise. If it happened in your eye, I think you would be almost blind for some time. I remember Negri very well, that season, he was untouchable. There was stories of him moving away from Ibrox, which was unusual in those days as we paid some hefty wages, but in the end, he faded away...... so sad, he was really awesome to watch.
  20. dont think shorts were same colour as top and socks and wouldnt trust a word jardine said The keeper wore the same shorts and socks as the rest of the team. Check out your photo and look close, they are the same as the outfield players, which was normal in those days
  21. Being lifted over the turnstile by my older brother and his mate into the schoolboys enclosure in the 60s, seeing Jim Baxter strut his stuff and the incredible Wee Willie Henderson running rings round defenders, as a young boy, I fell in love and have been ever since.......
  22. My birthday present 1st November 1978, I was 22! I was with the Army in Germany and the Gers had to beat PSV Eindhoven away after a 0-0 at Ibrox in the European Cup. No-one gave us a chance as the Dutch were World Cup runners up in 74 & 78 and PSV were a very good side and were the current UEFA Cup holders. We won 3-2 to become the first side to beat PSV at home in Europe ever. A great memory.
  23. Perhaps the No6 shirt has a magic spell and all who wear it will play well, score goals and up their work rate?
  24. my memory said he should have stuck to teaching.it was well publicised he was bill shankley,s nephew but that didnt make him a footballer he was average at c/h but not great mainly because of his size .i,ll never forget him missing from 6 inches.true and this game was 7 days after lisbon.work next day was not good at all. I quite agree, he was my teacher and I was young and excitable. Roger Hynd played like a big donkey in that game.
