  1. Champions League against Monaco, 15 minutes to go and we are throught to the last 16, then Amoruso blunders, Simone scores. Sick Sick Sick.
  2. I like the quote from Danny McGrain that was posted elswhere on here, when asked by a fan when he was signing for Rangers he replied, Im not good enough.
  3. Aye, lol and your luck they'll go, "ach fuck it, pub?" Then i would go a wee bit forward in time and find bro Walfred and say to him, dont bother starting your football team it will never make it.
  4. I would go to Kelvingrove park Glagow, to the spring of 1872 and look for 4 young guys talking about starting a football team. I would say to them, go for it lads you never know where it will lead.
  5. Moses McNeil in Rosneath im wanting to go see sometime before there was no stone im sure, or something like that and they where people going to dig him up and move him with a better stone etc. Its because Moses isnt on the headstone. It is his sister and her husband and the husbands siter no mention of Moses though buriel records show he is there. Its a real shame. You'd think Rangers would pay for the stone to be re vamped up a bit and adding his name in there Check out the Our Father who art in Rosneath thread

  7. Thank you ,though i am not seeking praise. Just want to share other aspects of supporting Rangers.
  8. It is true I could name names but out of respect wont, the man knows who he is I would imagine he told people about the encounter and yes it is the spirit of Rangers. Love it.
  9. I remember that game. My first was 75/76 I think.A scottish cup tie at Clyde (shawfield) Colin Jackson scored in a 2-0 win I think. The goalie for Clyde was Phil Cairney son of scots actor John Cairney my mother was sorted of related to him.
  10. Markinch Cemetery. Some of you may have seen my thread regarding the grave of Moses McNeil. That is not the only Rangers related grave I’ve been to. I have been to others mostly victims of Stairway 13, 2nd January 1971. I have my own personal reasons for doing this. In the course of this I learned about the “Markinch Boys” from Fife who died on stairway 13. There were 5 of them aged 12-15.They grew up together, lived in the same street, went to school together and went to Ibrox together and died together, it is heartbreaking. I read that there was a memorial stone dedicated to them on the street where they lived in Markinch. I put it in my mind to go their sometime, I live in Glasgow. Not so long after that I woke one morning with a strong and persistent thought to go to Markinch. I remember the day, a Tuesday I think. it was the day we were playing Stuttgart in CL ( the comeback game) at Ibrox, I was going. It was a nice sunny autumn day .I checked the train timetables and it could be done, get to Markinch and back for the match. So off I went. Markinch is a lovely place, I got a map from the local library and found the street where they lived and sure enough there is a memorial stone. I stayed a few minutes then made my initials with some small stones beside it. I looked at the map for the cemetery there was 2 The one I went to first was the Old cemetery after looking around a while I decided it was not here, all the graves were 17/1800s. The new cemetery was a bit further away from the village , I thought about abandoning it for now as the time was getting on, but decided as I had came I may as well see it through, If I miss the match so be it. When I got there there was 3 other people in the cemetery a couple at a grave an an older man watering flowers, the view from it is amazing. There are quite a lot of graves in the cemetery . I just made my way up and down the rows until I found them. There are 4 headstones in a row. I just stood there with my thoughts, soon the older man with the watering can came over and began watering the flowers at the graves (very well kept graves). I asked if he was a relative , he said one was his son. I introduced myself and told him why I was there. On the headstone we were in front of it said there was a man , his wife and their son. I asked the man , did you say it was your son. Stepson he replied. He told me about it. It is much too personal to repeat here but I thought it was beautiful. There were 4 headstonesI asked him about the 5th he said the boy was cremated and the ashes buried with his friends. He said to me , this is funny I wasn’t intending to come here today, I come often but wasn’t today I just decided earlier on to come. I told him that though I had intended coming here, I had woken up this morning with a strong and persistent thought to come here today. Hmmmmm? Strange. He asked me when I was going back. I said I need to get my skates on Im going to the match tonight, He offered me a lift to the station which I accepted. Going to the car he showed me a grave that was his brother . On the same headstone was a name similar to another victim of stairway 13. I told the man this and he said when he went to identify his stepsons body it wasn’t him. We agreed it must have been the guy with the similar name. The man dropped me at the station, we shook hands I told him that stairway 13 is NEVER forgotten by the Rangers fans. Derek Johnstone was at the funerals in 1971 he says he will never forget Markinch cemetery. Neither will I. I hope nobody minds me posting this I just thought I would share it. In memory of the 66.
  11. Think thats what Showers means...doesnt mean Tinks left from last weekend! LOL ha ha no, not that shower I mean constant pourin doon aw day rain, light showers i can live with.
  12. The Jehovahs and Mormons that have came to my door, didnt like me telling them they are Protestants. Christians sects that are not Roman Catholic. therefore protestants. I f it wasnt for The Reformation you would be burned at the stake.
  13. Respect to the fans of wee teams, they go week in week out never winning anything. A football team dying is like a person dying in my opinion.
  14. I think strictly speaking ones first Gers game should be at Ibrox. Whatever. the memory of the first game stays your whole life.
  15. Hear Hear Cyclops, "Any christian church that isnt a catholic church is not a true church". That is a bigoted and sectarian statement. Full Stop. George galloway once declared that "the pope is the head of the christian church" Another bigoted and sectarian statement. WMy definition of Protestant is believe what you want and the relationship between God ( probably exists in some form or another) and Man/woman is entirely personal. I dont do agents or middlemen/women.
  16. Rangers were supposed to be looking after this a couple of years ago with Sandy Jardine, I think, taking to do with it. Seem to be dragging their heels with this as nothing has been done to the grave. I may be wrong but wasn't it Bill Struth's grave that the club were going to do something about after the subject was brought up at the AGM a couple of years ago? No, I am pretty sure it was Moses. It says in the book that fans raised the matter of Bill Struths grave at an AGM and that the club were going to do something about it.
  17. I think there's just a lot of fans that are interested in the football side of things much more than concerning ourselves with orange walks or Protestanism. When I hear some fans saying that we should bring back the Billy Boys, even if it meant us getting kicked out of playing european football.....it bemuses me, to say the least. Football is a release for me. It's more than just a sport, I love Rangers, but it's a fantastic vehicle for me to indulge in my passion for football. I take a lot more pride from our sporting achievments over the years, the 52 titles, 1972, 9 in a row, UEFA Cup final.......than I do from our Protestant and British heritage, despite the fact that I am both Protestant and British . Infinitely more so. Each to their own. As a sidenote, was there not doubt as to when the club was formed whether it was actually formed with any sort of Protestant idenity in mind ? I thought this came some time after the formation of the club ? I don't have good knowledge of the early years, I just thought I'd read something like that a few months ago on here. Read Gary Ralstons, Rangers 1872 The Gallant Pioneers.
  18. I remember a few Years ago reading in a newspaper about a RBP parade from George Square to Bridgeton. 1 band and about 8 marchers were to be rerouted, and I quote the newspaper, "away from the mainly catholic Gallowgate area of the city". If your life is a pledge to Ireland, why are you here?
  19. WH SMITH Sauchiehall St Glasgow has copies. I got one last week.
