So where's the gap in quality? brown, mcgregor, armstrong, forrest, griffiths, lustig, in terms of skill, are only slightly above a decent spfl player. sinclair and roberts and teirney are particularly overrated and unable to make it at the epl level. You're right, Candias can make the difference. Even paedos won't argue the fact sinclair does fuck all defensively when tearney overlaps. Candias is a threat down the wing and covers for Tav defensively. And if we have Jack at holding mid, and with McCrorie playing right side as one of the 3cb as a back up options for Candias when Tav overlaps, then tearney and sinclair are easily contained.

I disagree. I rate him. I think Tav has immense talent overlapping, and if he does it too often, as with Wallace, it's the manager's responsibility to curtail some of it. Defending one on one - he has definitely improved this year under the new coaches but still needs more coaching.

When you play as wing backs, as Tav and Wallace always do, you must have cover for them through rotation and interchange. Waghorn and McKay were fucking useless at this, and this is why we were exposed defensively so often on the wings. Candias to his credit does this. Windass doesn't on the left side. If Canadias is involved in Tav's overlap, then the holding mid fielder (Jack) must cover or, when using 3 centre backs, the right sided CB covers if the holding midfielder is already committed. Since Savco play sinclair on the left and overlap tearney, multiple rather than single coverage of the right back zone is absolutely critical if Tav overlaps. Tactically, you can't play wing backs, as we have done (until Candias showed up), if you don't cover for them with interchange and rotation when they attack. Tav and Wallace get slaughtered for being caught up field when they attack when, in fact, it should be those who are designated to cover for them who should be slaughtered. And, if players have not been designated to cover for their overlaps, then the manager should be the one slaughtered for poor tactics.

In the formation, Jack's primary role is not sweeper; he is a DM or midfield anchor/holding midfielder - that's why he was placed in front of the 3 CB rather than behind them. One of his secondary roles in this formation is, when Tav, as a wing back, carries the ball up the wing, then Jack temporarily covers Tav's right back zone. Jack also does the same for Wallace(John) on the left side. Therefore, it's critical when Tav goes forward Wallace(John) does not and vice versa. When Tav goes forward and Candias is not involved in the play, then it's Candias' responsibility to cover defensively for Tav not Jack's. The formation also shows 3 centre backs. Bruno is in the middle, McCrorie is on the right side of him. McCrorie is a fail safe if Candias and Jack are unable to cover Tav's right back zone when he goes up. The same rotation and interchange tactics occurs between Wallace (John), Jack, Millar and Cardosa on the left side. Candias zonal responsibilities in this formation, as he's been doing, are right wing, inside right, and covering for Tav when he moves up and he's not in the play. Miller does the same on the left side. Dorrans is in the middle between Candias and Miller behind Morelos, passing down the channels and to the wings, and shooting from the 18 yard line.

If Brown dominates Pena then bring in Holt to snap, harry, and frustrate the fuck out of him. Tav and Wallace (John) must continue as they usually do - attack. When they do, their defensive zone responsibilities must be covered by those designated to cover them when they go up. If that zone is exposed when they go up, it's not their fault. Candias has shown he can cover when Tav goes up. If Candias is involved with Tav's play, then, in the above formation, Jack or McCrorie take the responsibility of that zone through rotation and interchange. Rangers must individually and gang press the fuck out of them for 90 minutes or we're fucked.
