  1. Motives ?? - I don't understand The guy obviously had access to the financial records and projections that we can only guestimate at. Rather than being a critical "sour grapes" article - to me, it was more of a positive and optimistic piece, offering realistic solutions to build the club.
  2. I'm not wanting to have a go at Ally here, but what is it he has done over the last 7 months that merit him being the greatest ever Ranger ??
  3. Have you read the actual article from Forbes or the watered down version from STV ??
  4. I'm driving myself crazy here trying to remember Alex Totten's game in charge ???
  5. I just thought the term "backward league" was a bit derogatory. Anyway, minor point and off-topic
  6. You are right on his trophy record. It could be argued that he inherited some fantastic players, and although belts had to be tightened - he still had the opportunity to spend many millions on a single player. The "spending less than he got in" scenario was pretty skewed due to him having players like Flo, Gio, etc. already on the books. Anyway, I'm beginning to sound a bit negative of the big guy - that is not my intention, I actually liked the guy - and I don't think he ever got the recognition he thoroughly deserved.
  7. Funnily enough - we won the Treble 20 years ago aswell. Maybe Destiny is calling for this season.
  8. Bored out of my nut - I decided to have a look back at how things were 10 years ago. Big Ecks first full season in charge against probably the strongest Celtic team since the 60/70s A squad containing players such as Klos, Numan, Amoruso, Arteta, Mols, de Boer, etc. Triple winners for the 7th time in our history I won't mention Europe though As I said in the sub-title - how things have changed.
  9. That's the answer to the question I asked Mongoose above.
  10. Well done, However, for a bonus point - can you name the player next to McLeod ?? (little clue - later in his career, he was signed by Notts Forest in 1980 for over a million, crazy money at the time)
  11. And where on any teamsheets does it state the player's religion ? I take it the answer is based on the OP's assumptions.
  12. You raise a good point, and it was a question I asked on another thread a couple of weeks ago. Why would the original investors want to dilute their share value so soon, and should there really be a need for additional investment for at least the next 2-3 years ??? Surely we can "cut our crust" being in the lower divisions, whilst still maintaining ST sales of 30K+
  13. Big handsome bastard playing Centre Back for Motherwell in that game - turned out to be a football legend
  14. Probably posted elsewhere, but it appears the Club is a bit bitter over the transfer of Templeton also - Bitter Jambos Club must always come first 01.09.2012 Hearts today reasserted the strategy for the club in light of the close of the transfer window in which the club secured one of its most promising young players while moving closer to securing another of its key Academy graduates. Business was also concluded which saw one senior squad player depart and one return. A club spokesperson said: "We appreciate the supporters' sad feelings at the departure of one of our top players. We would like to bring some light into the situation to show it was a clear and reasonable decision by Hearts. "We need to admit we are not completely satisfied with the offer but it was the best available offer and other clubs were just waiting to get Templeton for free in January. "We had lengthy negotiations and Rangers improved their offer several times until finally we agreed terms. Templeton was desperate to leave Hearts for any club offering big money and his contract was running out in May 2013. "We did not want to sell him but there was no reason to keep him as his mind and heart was not with Hearts and in January he could sign a pre-contract and walk for free in summer. "Rangers were the only club where this option was not available due to a transfer ban, so they offered money for Templeton. All other clubs were sitting in the bushes to take him free in January. "The club put a huge amount of effort into keeping Templeton at Tynecastle, spending many months trying to find an agreement. Twelve months of discussions and negotiations since the start of 2011-12 season did not help. He has rejected every one of our offers completely, regardless of terms. "After last January he switched off completely after the club rejected a laughable offer from a minor Championship club. Paulo Sergio had many issues with the player's attitude and did not include him for Scottish Cup Final squad for the lack of focus and determination. "We believe the decision of the club was right in the circumstance and has brought money to the club where Templeton was a big risk to keep in both football and financial terms. "Ryan McGowan's story is different. The player has declared he wants to stay at Hearts. We praise his decision. We hope he will show his commitment by putting pen to paper to sign a new deal with the club in the next couple of days in evidence of his declarations. "Callum Paterson is the example of commitment and a true Jambo. Despite active interest from Rangers, the boy immediately committed to a new deal the club offered him in an effort to keep best young talent at the club. "Hearts always seeks to keep good players at the club and make business only when the terms are for the benefit of the club and a good replacement is available. This is not always possible due to activities of greedy agents and circumstances as above. We remain focused to keeping our best players at the club. "But we will never compromise and risk keeping someone not interested in the future of the club and seeking just money as their only motivator. "Our aim is to have a squad of players who are strongly committed to the club and fight for the jersey and for the supporters in the stands. Only such a team can bring success and enjoyment to the people."
