Don't understand why football programmes always have to have ex-players. I've watched MOTD for countless years and can't remember a single fucking insight to come from Shearer, Lawrenson, Hansen or any other joke they have on. Far better to have a football writer (or similar) who knows what the fuck is actually going on and can string an intelligent observation together, and have only one ex-pro on to please any idiot kids who relate to their point of view.

Disappointing day. Woakes and Kerrigan both looked tidy in their afternoon/evening spells, and it was more bad captaincy than lack of skill by Kerrigan for his two overs than went for 28 before lunch. Really Woakes should have been fourth seamer rather than third.

So Woakes did get selected... and is going at 6 an over. Kerrigan too expensive too.

Faulkner's emergence is another reason why we should have used this series to see if Ben Stokes and/or Chris Woakes are up to it. Woakes disappointing in limited overs but his county championship stats are amazing. Stokes at 5 and Woakes at 7 would be an immense prospect for any team. Woakes is in the squad but I'd happily bet he doesn't play. It will go to Tremlett. Boring selectors

But thankfully no Pat Cummins. I was dreading us facing an attack of Cummins, Pattinson, Harris and Siddle, with Starc waiting in the wings. Those five would wipe the floor with our usual five quicks in the squad. And they probably will... in 2017

I think we had Broad/Finn/Tremlett against Sri Lanka in '11 - so 6'6, 6'7 and 6'8. Anderson's main weakness is his height
