  1. Surely not many bears in the scotland supporters club. think they usually punt about 40,000 tickets straight away for meaningful home games.
  2. Yes they are 10 times European Champions and therefore the greatest European team in history. Should we not count our earliest titles because the game was different and the structure was different, even some of the rules were different and some of the clubs who we competed against in later years didnt even exist. No their European Championship titles are as valid today as our 54 Scottish ones.
  3. And to be fair thats a bit like comparing apples and oranges. In the last 8 world cups only one has been won by the host and they are also the only host nation to get to a final in that period too. By including Brazil, Uruguay and Italy (when it was a fledgling tournament with a very different format and a much smaller participation level) then the results are skewed. If we take the modern era (say 82 onwards) then we see a very different picture emerge.
  4. Rubbish Of the 19 World Cups only 6 have been won by the host nation. And the host nation has only reached the final 8 times.
  5. http://www.steelmenonline.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=14300&st= Seems the penny still hasnt dropped for these no-marks. Mediocrity has seriously affected their world view.
  6. Great game. Well Done St Johnstone who deserved it. Credit to Utd for making a game of it.
  7. Cant really disagree with the thrust of your post. Maybe not the optimism but your point is bang on. My point was that, of all the guys from that Motherwell team, who we could have signed we picked probably the one that was least effective in that team. Even the guys that were brought in to replace the players they lost are better than the ones we signed.
  8. Im not ducking it, im answering it head on. You seem to be claiming that we cant sign players due to lack of European competition. I have disproved this. If signing for Motherwell was such a better proposition then why didnt Law extend his contract? He was offered more money to go south than we were offering and yet he took the path to Ibrox. The point is simple. We could have signed experienced (proven) players based on what they had done in the previous two years for a fraction of what we spent on guys who had been less than effective. Law was the least effective member of the Motherwell team that he left. Six or seven guys all having been better than him. This is NOT hindsight it is based on what players have ALREADY done.
  9. None of the players that left Motherwell, at the same time as Law, signed for a team that was competing in European competition. It wasnt a factor in their decision.
  10. Ainsworth went to Motherwell AFTER they had been knocked out of Europe, on an initial six month loan deal. So in his case you are right...nothing to do with European football. Anier wasnt even getting first team football at a club that were desperate to offload him, so in his case your probably right again and it had nothing to do with European football. The point is that there were better players than the ones McCoist went after, who were available for less money. And what about the players who left Motherwell, probably all of them had been better players, and provided Motherwell with a better return, than Law. How many of them went to a team which was competing in European competition? None!
  11. Except its not hindsight is it? My post and opinions are based on exactly what the players had done previously. Thats called foresight. It also shows up McCoists lack of awareness as to what players he could have gotten.
  12. too easy. Higdon (27 goals last season and 15 goals from 30 games in the Dutch top division this season). McCall also discovered Ainsworth and Anier and and got them for buttons. Both of whom have scored way more goals than Law did in two years from the same positions. Thats three off the top of my head only thinking about one team. McCall had a fraction of McCoists money and there's three guys he signed who are all better than what McCoist signed. In fact of all the players that Murderhell had prior to the end of last season Law was probably the one they missed the least. Of the players we could have had from that Murderhell team its appaling to think that Law was the guy he went for.
  13. It was an amazing journey. So many incredible moments. Is this on DVD anywhere?
  14. Thats not why we were relegated.
  15. Warnock is good friends with Stuart McCall and was at Fir Park on Saturday.
  16. If they had wanted Mourinho they could have had him at the end of last season. They are looking for someone who.is prepared to spend the rest of their career at Man Utd. Mourinho is too fickle. Kloop at Dortmund or Simeone at Ath Madrid are the targets. Kloop being the least likely of the two to accept. If they cant get either of those then possibly Van Gaal until for two/three seasons til they figure out their next long term manager. Would not be surprised if they opt for a total "off the grid" replacement along the lines of Martinez or Lambert or possibly even Strachan. Not expecting it nor do I think it would be a good move but I wouldnt be surprised if they did.
  17. No he is not. This is made up nonsense. Having actually spent time chatting with the boy I can assure you that his heart lies at St James Park.
