British welterweight mixed martial artist Paul Daley has put out an apology to Josh Koscheck, the UFC, and MMA fans after throwing a punch at his opponent after their three-round contest was over on Saturday night in Montreal.

Dana White, the UFC president, had reacted immediately after the event that Daley would be cut from the UFC roster following his actions. Daley flew back to the UK, five hours after the event. After landing in the UK, he put out this statement.

I have also interviewed him. More to follow…

Daley said: “I’ve had a long flight home to consider my actions and regret the mistake I made on Saturday. I would like to apologise to the UFC and the Athletic Commission for what I’ve done as well as all the fans and sponsors that support me.”

“I would also like to offer my sincerest apologies to Josh Koscheck who did not deserve the cheap shot I threw. He did what he needed to do in order to win the fight and get the job done, and I foolishly reacted to the situation.”

“There is no excuse for my actions and I know what I did was very unprofessional. I was immensely frustrated by a collection of things that took place throughout the fight as well as leading up to it, but I’m certainly not trying to condone or excuse my actions.”

“Josh implemented his game plan perfectly taking me down and staying on top of me for the majority of the fight. I was also frustrated about him claiming (and acting like) I knee’d him in the head on the ground when it was clear for all to see in the video replay that I didn’t connect at all with the knee I threw.”

“Then finally, the verbal abuse Josh hit me with in the final 30 seconds of the fight simply pushed me over the edge and my frustrations came out as I knew I’d lost the fight, was unhappy with my own performance and had then been ridiculed by my opponent to top things off.”

“This is certainly no excuse for my actions; I fully deserve to be punished for what I did and hope that everyone I have disappointed can forgive my rash decision. I feel very disappointed in myself for losing my cool and hope that I am able to address my temperament and bounce back from this low point in my career.”

“I feel ashamed and embarrassed by what I did and hope that together my team and I can get through this issue. It will be a long road back from where I am now to earning the trust and respect of the UFC and the MMA fans that have supported me for so long, I know I’ve let you all down but I’m determined to make it up to you all.”

I hate to disagree with you guys but Mauricio Rua will KO Lyoto Machida. This is a rematch from the first fight where Rua was robbed of the decision. Rematch's don't go the distance, always end with face on the canvass lads.

Kimbo needs a cardio.

That loss was because of his cardio, he was gassed in the first round.

Hope Paul Daley isn't banned for good.

Kimbo would have been beat even if he could last 50 rounds in that fight. Mitrione if he had better subs would have had Kimbo to sleep a few times and mauled him standing too.

Kimbo got mauled in the second round, if Mitrione had better subs then he would have won.

Kimbo won the first round then gassed, he came out and could hardly throw a punch.

If Kimbo came out and stood with him he would have won but he went for the takedown.

Kimbo can't stand with anyone his knees are shot and can't check a leg kick, as soon as someone catches him with a couple of decent leg kicks he's done. That's why he's been released.

Yeah i agree that his knees are shot, he is stupid refusing the injection on the ultimate fighter.

He will go to strikeforce and earn some good cash probably.

I wouldnt say found out, they have all faced very good people with excellent ground games (apart from biping). Fighters from UK struggle with wrestlers because we dont do it over here. None of them fought shit fighters.

that's why they have incomplete games, hardy and daley no tdd at all agaisnt elite wrestlers, etim was the unluckiest since he has decent ground game but came up agaisnt a bjj specialist, and bisping for being a striker does not know how to tuck his chin in, every time he backs up his posture and chin get higher and higher.

Pleased that Shogun stopped Machida. Injury-free I reckon he is the best in the world at light-heavy. He was robbed by the judges in their first fight as well. After he hit him for the 3rd time with no response he looked at the ref to stop it because he knew lyoto was out. Nice bit of class shown by Shogun.

Daley is such a cocky little shit. Glad he'll never fight in UFC again.

I thought Kimbo's fight was quite a good watch. The punches that ended up finishing the fight were embarrassing though. They were both absolutely nackered. I stil thought there could have been a place for Kimbo in the UFC. He could fight people like James Toney and other guys like him who are just getting used to MMA. Technically not good fights to watch but still entertaining. Better than watching people like John Fitch.

Surely though if Daley is chucked then Nate Diaz would have to be out the door seeing as he was part of a 4 on 1 beatdown.

plus they are signing jake shields who was involced in that scuffle and g yvles) the boy who k/o the referee.

How silly do you feel now ;-)

EDIT: just seen your "eats humble pie" comment mate.

Went with the upset. Think Rogers will knock him out, Overeem's not known for his chin and Rogers has great power.

Aye Joe Henle was robbed off a decision and a wildcard spot.

Kris McCray got it over him and Hammortree despite being awful in his last fight. Uscola got the other wildcard and Court McGee took Rich Attonito's place.
