The League Cup Final team news

Kirk Broadfoot has been ruled out of Sunday's League Cup final with St Mirren because of a hamstring injury.

The former Buddies defender pulled up with the problem in training last Friday and consequently missed the 3-3 Scottish Cup draw with Dundee United.

Broadfoot has been working hard in the gym this week in an effort to be fit in time to face his former club at Hampden.

But he won't quite make it and that comes as a huge blow to the Scotland cap, whose chances of being in the squad were high thanks to Madjid Bougherra's absence.

The Algerian defender is also sidelined because of a hamstring problem and is not expected to play again for at least a fortnight.

With both Bougherra and Broadfoot out, it seems almost certain Danny Wilson will join David Weir at the back.

The teenager has played just 18 senior games since making his debut for the club back in October.

But his assured performances have been a major plus point for manager Walter Smith and he will have no qualms about pitching the youngster into the match.

Neil Alexander also seems set to play after appearing in every other round of the competition thus far.

He played against Queen of the South, Dundee and St Johnstone in the earlier rounds and is expected to get the nod ahead of regular goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Apart from the two missing defenders, boss Smith has a full squad to choose from and will select his team after tomorrow's last training session.

Neil Alexander deserves to start (tu)

And even if Broadfoot was fit he wouldn't have got in ahead of Wilson.

He wouldn't have got ahead of Wilson that's a definite, but as you're limited with the amount of subs you're allowed with Boogie being out he might have got into the squad?

I really hope Alexander does start, it would be a bit of a kick in the teeth if he was dropped for the final after playing the other rounds.

I prefer Alexander in goals against St Mirren's biggish forwards.

He deals better with the high balls into the box than McGregor does.

No worries about Wilson alongside Weir either.

We need an early goal so they have to open up and at least make a game of it.

Matches against St. Mirren and Hamilton have been crap this season, and far too many of them.
