trueblue68 2,497
My da reminds me of big Jock in so many ways . A couple of Years ago they thought he had dementia and sent him to a specialist as he was forgetting things/people ( it turned out not to be that ). So i am sitting there with my Dad and the first thing the guy asks is "do you ever feel sad Mr Trueblue68" "only when the rangers get beat" was the reply.

Buggleskelly 3,772
Rangers rally at the kelvin hall circa 83/84. WHY were the so-called politically-correct EVER given a say so ???Think back to 1997 and the death of Diana. The outpouring of grief from a nation for a woman they never knew. This was the start of all of this political correctness shite and let's get offended at everything and anything started. Tony Blair opened the doors of Britain and every sad case imaginable came here to take advantage of our hospitality and liberal dishing of benefits and perks. To this day they still pour in daily but woe betide any one who speaks out against it.You are likely to be tagged a bigot or a nazi and the buzzword "unacceptable" if you dare question it all. The government fuelled PC agenda has effectively killed free speech in this country and we all must sit like little lambs and take it in the ass while our country is over run by Eastern European gypsies who are intent on bleeding us dry. Jock was in goal the day the Eagles beat Newcastle United 2-1 in the FA Cup ( I have the programme somewhere). If you're ever down that way when they are playing pop in and you'll be able to drink in the Wallace suite.Newcastle United 1-2 Bedford Town Third Round: Saturday January 4th 1964Attendance: 33,820 [image: John Fahy celebrates as a helpless Gordon Marshall is betean by a deflection off Billy McKinney] Scorers: {United} Stan Anderson {87} : {Town} John Fahy {28}, Billy McKinney {o.g 42} United: 1:Gordon Marshall, 5:Jim Iley, Billy McKinney, 6:John McGrath, Stan Anderson, 9:Barrie Thomas, Andy Penman, 11:Alan Suddick Town: 1:Jock Wallace, David Lovell, Mick Collins, Bobby Anderson, David Sturrock, David Cooney, John Fahy, 11:Ron Heckman
sandyboyblue 226
I fondly remember his first game back with us, it was Aberdeen away. The battle fever was on, everyone was trying to get tickets. I was approached outside the ground from an old friend who offered me £15 quid for mine (tickets were only £5 back then). Before the game started, I remember one supporter running on to the centre spot at Pittodrie and placing his scarf round it, he was one of many that got nicked that day for being over exhuberant. We rarely won anything around those barren days, so it seemed like we had won the cup final that day. Fond memories.
Kaiser Wull 203
Some great stuff about The Big Man, the sort of bloke who'd wrap his players up in wool before big games. Steel wool, that is.

BlueRD 138
If anyone's interested, his old man was an even harder bugger. Blackpool goalie when centre forwards were centre forwards.Stuart McCall's old man played in same team too (Andy McCall)Again, this text has been brought to you by family pride and Strongbow...My father used to watch Falkirk and remembers Jock's father playing there after he left Blackpool. He also told me about Wallace snr being a real hard guy. He says that when the teams came out Big Jock would throw his gloves into the back of the net, spit in his hands, rub them together then play with his bare hands. Uncle Fester 186
Wallace was a classic Scottish manager of the type familiar to modern fans in the guise of Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson, renowned for their ability to lose their temper and terrify players who are not trying their best. Gary Lineker, the broadcaster and former England captain, recalls the terror he felt when Jock Wallace, then manager of Leicester City, "pinned me against the dressing room wall at half-time and called me a lazy English this and that. We were 2-0 up and I'd scored both goals. I didn't score in the second half - I was still shaking!"
loyalandtrueblue 69
Loved the big man! What i have always found sad and disgusted me was the treatment dished out to him and his lovely wife when they were asked to leave Ibrox before a game, on Sounesses orders!Disgusting! The guy should have always been welcome!Shame on Souness for that action! A few weeks after being invited to leave Ibrox, Jock went to a Septic home match (well, he probably needed a good laugh). Needless to say, some would be wags in the Septic support tried to wind him up. They needn't have bothered. Jock simply swept their attempts aside by loudly informing one and all, "Listen, I've been chucked out of better places than this." A class act. linnyplant 303
Got to say that there are some brilliant posts on this thread about Big Jock. He was a giant of a man in every sense who all the players loved and would have run through a brick wall for him. His two trebles in three years against a very good celtic side was a magnificent achievement and he also ended their bid for ten in a row. I have no doubt that Big Jock played a significant part in Rangers winning the ECWC as Willie Waddells assistant in Barcelona in 1972 when Colin Stein scored one and Willie Johnston two{couldn't resist that}. I think that there have been some magnificent Rangers managers over the years since I began supporting the Bears in the mid sixties but I think Jock Wallace is the manager who identified with the fans the most . I think Ally McCoist is similar in that sense because he is the first to praise the fans whenever he can. Maybe he learned that attribute from playing for the big man during his second spell in the eighties.I really would recommend Alan Balls book to any Rangers fan who wants to know more about the legendary Jock Wallace and it is really sad to think that he left us at the relatively young age of sixty years. Alan Ball really loved Big Jock but he is only one of many footballing people who felt that way about him. Sadly it cannot be forgotten that Jock was not treated well by some at Ibrox after everything he achieved for us. Perhaps someone at Ibrox could now right those wrongs by recognising the big mans massive achievements for the Rangers. There is a cracking colour photo of Big Jock and Alan Ball in his book .They are shaking hands and the caption simply states;" The wonderful Jock Wallace greets me at Colchester"No Surrender Big Man!!
