A couple of Years ago they thought he had dementia and sent him to a specialist as he was forgetting things/people ( it turned out not to be that ). The battle fever was on, everyone was trying to get tickets. I was approached outside the ground from an old friend who offered me £15 quid for mine (tickets were only £5 back then).Before the game started, I remember one supporter running on to the centre spot at Pittodrie and placing his scarf round it, he was one of many that got nicked that day for being over exhuberant. A few weeks after being invited to leave Ibrox, Jock went to a Septic home match (well, he probably needed a good laugh). Needless to say, some would be wags in the Septic support tried to wind him up. They needn't have bothered. Jock simply swept their attempts aside by loudly informing one and all, "Listen, I've been chucked out of better places than this." A class act. He was a giant of a man in every sense who all the players loved and would have run through a brick wall for him. His two trebles in three years against a very good celtic side was a magnificent achievement and he also ended their bid for ten in a row. I have no doubt that Big Jock played a significant part in Rangers winning the ECWC as Willie Waddells assistant in Barcelona in 1972 when Colin Stein scored one and Willie Johnston two{couldn't resist that}. I think that there have been some magnificent Rangers managers over the years since I began supporting the Bears in the mid sixties but I think Jock Wallace is the manager who identified with the fans the most . I think Ally McCoist is similar in that sense because he is the first to praise the fans whenever he can. Maybe he learned that attribute from playing for the big man during his second spell in the eighties.I really would recommend Alan Balls book to any Rangers fan who wants to know more about the legendary Jock Wallace and it is really sad to think that he left us at the relatively young age of sixty years. Alan Ball really loved Big Jock but he is only one of many footballing people who felt that way about him. Sadly it cannot be forgotten that Jock was not treated well by some at Ibrox after everything he achieved for us. Perhaps someone at Ibrox could now right those wrongs by recognising the big mans massive achievements for the Rangers.There is a cracking colour photo of Big Jock and Alan Ball in his book .They are shaking hands and the caption simply states;" The wonderful Jock Wallace greets me at Colchester"No Surrender Big Man!!
