Fran's Striking Target

ALLY McCOIST has thrown down the gauntlet to Fran Sandaza to keep his place in the Rangers side by shooting down Peterhead on Sunday.

The Spanish striker has returned to the main striking role in the absence of skipper Lee McCulloch.

Sandaza played well against Berwick last weekend – but frustratingly couldn’t find the net – and he is set to lead the line again at Balmoor as McCulloch will still be sidelined with an ankle knock.

McCoist told RangersTV: “I felt big Fran played very well at the weekend but the only thing he was lacking was a goal. I think we were all willing him to get a goal, which he deserved, but the most important thing was he contributed and I’m very confident the goals will come.

“He twisted and turned to set up Andy Little for the first goal last Saturday and then he was involved in a really good third goal for us when he produced a great cross which led to a first class volley from David Templeton.

“He has a chance at the moment because Lee is out due to bruising on his ankle so the position is his to lose at the moment.

“Scans showed some slight bruising on the ankle which was giving Lee some discomfort so it would be crazy to rush him back.

“Centre forwards will always be judged on goals – and Fran knows that – and you could see a bit of anxiety coming in but as long as he keeps playing well that’s the most important thing.”

perhaps ally needs to take him to one side for some specialist training. starting with the 3 white sticks with the big mesh hanging on them is where you need to put the ball to score a goal.hitting the outside does not count.then once that bit is learned he can show him how to put the round thingy in there.apart from that bit his overall game seems to be getting better.

I think he'll score goals if given a decent run in the team. He's a pretty good target man IMO as he can takes the ball in and distribute it pretty well.

Agree'd he can go past players aswell, We'll see the best of him shortly.
