folkestoneger 8,143
An interest in opposition to immigration on spurious grounds being accepted uncritically. I never said that controlling immigration is racist. Deporting people who are legally here on no other grounds than that they are foreign is racist. Disregarding whatever value they might have to the country on the grounds that they aren't one of us is clearly racist.A dictionary records what a word means, it doesn't promote a meaning. When the meaning evolves, so does the dictionary's definition. Besides, you defined racism but you didn't define race. Let's go to the OED:"1.1 A group of people sharing the same culture, history, language, etc.; an ethnic group:"Which is what I said. They would not necessarily be legally here if we left the EU as their residence is based on an EU law. Would it still be racist to remove, not deport, people who were here illegally?Even if we accept your definition of race it still doesn't make it racist to remove them as they would be removed because of what they are not ie British rather than what they were. It would be a purely legal matter of non citizens not having an automatic right to stay

Retroactively applying the law specifically to remove people now deemed undesirable simply because they are foreigners would be racist. I am quite comfortable in calling it that. And I'm confident that my opinion would be quickly confirmed by the same people who would excuse such a policy conveniently not feeling the same way about British people overseas being treated in the same manner by foreign countries. "I hope that stops at two racists in Wigan, not snowballing to 2,000 or 20,000 racists in Wigan."
Thewhitesettler 2,711
I'm 55 now, and feel that the older I get, the less tolerant I become. This does not mean I'm getting more racist, just think that we're becoming more easily offended. A word, like 'chink' only becomes racist when used in a derogatory, or threatening manner. Therefore calling people of Asian ethnicity is not racist if used in a non-confrontational way (IMHO)I could be uttering pish here, & maybe we do get more racist the older you get, & don't get me started about the 'shirt-lifters'
