Yata 161
The problem with the Moneyball system, As Adrian Durham was saying the other day, is that the system doesn't take into account the opposition, or if a player is feeling a bit leggy has problems at home etc, last year at Xmas it said that Brentford should have been in 11th place when in fact there were 6th, and it had the same positions for the end of the system, So Warbs was actually doing better than the system wanted him too. lolActually, alot of the stat work being done by the top guys, especially on sites like statsbomb, does take into consideration this sort of thing. There has also been interviews with the head stats guy at brentford and he has confirmed that his department only have a certain amount of input on decisions. Whatever advice they give is usually taken into consideration along with all the other departments.
Da Kool Blue 139
Moneyball has potential in limited sports like Baseball, Cricket, and to a lesser degree NFL.But when it come to Football, in particular those teams that play in the European market, there are just too many factors at play for it to work. Despite the fact that most of the top clubs in the EPL have aanalytic departments and do ALOT of stat based scouting? It's really not hard to find interviews in the recent past with sporting departments at clubs but these days most of the transfer decisions at the top clubs are done by the DOF taking into consideration input from ALL departments. Also ALL of the major betting markets use this sort of data to set odds as well, most of the the stats guys are all ex-traders for the big betting companies.
