The Dude 20,026
At todays Scottish prices maybe 300k or so. As I say not very much. One of the other players was Stan Anderson who used to play for Hamilton Accies and Clyde. It wasn't a 'record' price.Baxter was a Scottish record transfer at the time. cushynumber 25,178
Marvin Andrews:"As his reputation as a player grew so, too, did his involvement in the church and his reliance on faith when it came to making career decisions. For instance, at a time when Livingston were on the verge of bankruptcy, Andrews was offered a transfer to Dundee United, on a much larger salary. "Unlike other footballers Marvin doesn't have an agent. God is his agent and God said he shouldn't go to Dundee United," says Pastor Joe says. He stayed." It would be interesting trying to make a case for big Marv only coming to us because of an EBT - or does the rule only apply to "good" players? cushynumber 25,178
Nacho Novo - BBC newsCeltic have decided against offering a contract to Dundee striker Nacho Novo after holding signing talks. But Dundee insist that they will not be held to ransom by Novo and Rangers, who want a reduction in the asking price.BBC Sport believes that Celtic will not be pursuing their interest and appear not to have made a formal offer. It seems that Celtic were left with the impression that Novo did not show the necessary level of commitment during Tuesday's talks in Glasgow.Dundee and Celtic had agreed a £500,000 fee, while Rangers, who have had two offers rejected, have not seen fit to increase their bid further.Rangers boss Alex McLeish appears to hope that the 25-year-old's desire to move to Ibrox will force Dundee's hand. Nacho has never expressed a preference to us Dundee chief executive Peter Marr"This one is still on-going," he told his club's website. "I think it will come down to where Novo wants to go."I cannot say I am 100% confident that his choice will be Rangers. Doesn't really sound as if an EBT was the deciding factor here. Creampuff 22,628
Companies don't generally use these schemes to buy things they couldn't otherwise afford. They do it to have more cash in the bank. The whole advantage angle is ridiculous.
K.A.I 36,183
Once cellic got involved we couldn't afford Scott Allan. Every cloud does have a silver lining, if he was that good he'd be in their team. It's not that we couldn't afford him - what Celtic paid we would have paid - Hibs wouldn't sell to us and the fenians being the weirdos they are nipped in and got a player they didn't want or need It's not often I agree with King but it was quite sensible what he said that maybe with hindsight Celtic actually done us a favour

The Man In the HAT 34
all this could we couldn't we afford so and so is nonsense. We did pay them they got their moneyNow it might be possible that an amount of tax is due (subject to appeal or otherwise)Given that an insolvency event has occurred then its exactly the same as Livy Motherwell and Dundee (twice) in that the tax man will get his percentage of the pot.Quite what this has to do with anyone else is baffling
