Boab 73
St Mirren close door on an extension to the season for Rangers after players book holiday to millionaires' playground By PETER JARDINE - More by this author » Last updated at 09:42am on 18th April 2008 Comments Comments Walter Smith St Mirren have slammed the door shut on an extension to the season for Rangers - after their players booked a club trip to the millionaires' playground of Puerto Banus. • More Rangers news Walter Smith's Ibrox side are still waiting for the SPL to schedule outstanding fixtures against Saints at Love Street and Motherwell at Fir Park. But any hopes of those games being held back until after the current May 18 end-of-season date receded last night as it emerged the Paisley club's players will be on holiday after they have fulfilled their final bottom-six fixture. Gus MacPherson's side are at Inverness on Saturday, May 17 for their last game of the season and the players will fly to Spain the following day. The Love Street manager and his assistant, Andy Millen, also have UEFA Pro-Licence commitments abroad from that date. "I can confirm that our players have made arrangements to take a break immediately after the last game of the season," confirmed MacPherson. "They won't be in the country and are heading to Spain for a holiday. It is something the players put together themselves." Champions Celtic have already made their feelings clear that there should be no extension of the season - even if Rangers are competing in the UEFA Cup Final at the City of Manchester Stadium on Wednesday, May 14. Smith, the Ibrox hierarchy and SPL office-bearers Iain Blair and Lex Gold were wrestling with the issue again yesterday, but a four-games-in-eight-days scenario looks increasingly likely for the league leaders and Scottish Cup favourites The Daily Mail, can't get the link for the moment. Guest Andypendek
feeble but predictable. however, we can't expect other people to wait forever. this should have been sorted out at the split.
McWeedy 28
Well their entire team was in the sports cafe in liverpool at the beginning of the year (Scotland v Ukraine game i think). Anyways they were giving it renditions of The soldier song etc. Scum of the highest order. Their bus driver was a bear and seems to hate the entire team. Mike Newells Sexist Army 2
Does it really matter anyway? Celtic have already said they won't allow the season to be extended.
wearethepeople 0
The Celtic board, the SFA and the Referees booked this flight for St Mirren... This is just not fair..... f ing typical. Kind regards Ahole Tim

Danny 9
feeble but predictable. however, we can't expect other people to wait forever. this should have been sorted out at the split. Well before. I posted a rant many months ago chastising the SPL for procrastinating over this. I have been sadly proven very correct.
mithrandir713 8
Total pish once again. We are getting punished for the spls incompetence. The league will lose it's integrity if we have to play 4 games in 8 days. That is if it has any integrity left.
minstral 5,375
st mirren another shower of scum who lay down to let their beloved celtic win the league.
fergiebubs 67
1 question? .....I know this is hypothetical, but what if there's some really terrible weather on the last day of the league and the entire schedule is cancelled? OR some ex celtic player cops it a few days before.....will Lawell have the balls to ask for a postponement...seeing as the 'integrity of the spl will be at risk if the fixtures aren't completed on time'? Crookstonranger184 0
If they start pissing us about then Bain/Murray should be on the phone to Love (Celtic) street and tell them that they can stick their away allocation up their backside next year and see how they cope with the possible loss of approx £500,000 of income from the Gers fans. :unionflag: :bouncy:
MikeBlue 136
I agree with Minstral - it's not up to St Mirren to decide this, if the league is extended then they have to play or forfeit the game.

bauba30 1
Are St Mirrenn players meant to put their lives on hold while the SPL dither? THis isnt St mirrens fault, the SPL are the opnes that caused this with their dithering. They should have stepped in weeks ago Aye you're right mate to a certain extent, but by booking holidays when the situation STILL isn't sorted out, St. Mirren are effectively telling the SPL when their season is going to finish. Regardless of what strategies are implemented to rectify the mess we have at the minute. This is added unwanted pressure that could have been avoided and if you happen to be a conspiracy theorist, it's another example of how forces seem to join together to make things as difficult as possible for RFC. Guest The Brown Brogue
So rather than extend the season to help the only scottish representative left in europe, with the chance to be the first scottish club to win a european trophy in 25 years not only improving the profile of the scottish game, but improving the ranking co-efficient, both of which will be to the benefit to ALL scottish football, and the SPL wont step in just because a shower of shite from Paisley will lose their deposit for a fortnight in Magaluf? It's beyond belief the sheer incompetence of the administrators of scottish football... the idea of 'SPL TV', the split, the stadium regulations which only apply when they want them to etc etc , and now this... the SPL: the laughing stock of world football. nvager 498
Well sad to say not unexpected. Rangers have been too cooperative and I think made a mistake asking for the Gretna game to be postponed. Mistake? perhaps in letting Celtic postpone the OF match? No good deed goes unpunished.

Wow, good to hear the SPL is backing and trying to help a Scottish team that has done the country proud in Europe, should it get to the UEFA-cup final. Great to hear this team would have time to prepare for such a big game instead of having to play even more matches than usual around that important fixture. The SPL should have sorted this out a long time ago instead of just hoping we would go out of the UEFA- or Scottish cup, it's a shame! :angry2:
Guest Andypendek
who knows, perhaps the SPL will tell saints they have to play us post-final, the players refuse to give up their break and we play the final game, needing 3 points for the quad, against st mirren reserves. for the first time in my life i would go on celtic boards to see how they were reacting to that!
