The 31-year-old told the club of his decision after Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Reading - in which he was sent off 15 seconds after entering as a substitute. BBC Radio Sheffield said the stalling of contract negotiations was the reason behind his decision. The club said it was now considering his request but added that discussions over a new deal were ongoing. 606: DEBATE Should Rangers sign him until the end of the season? DF606: Have your say Gillespie moved to Bramall Lane on a free transfer from Leicester in August 2005. Been a big player for northern ireland but even then hes very inconsistant. On his day hes great, old style winger who runs at defenders, problem is he has one good day every 6 or 7 games.
