Football is in danger of imploding this year

With the reported vile money being offered to Kaka and his club, it seems rich businessmen have endless pots of cash to burn wildly on lavish playthings while the rest of the world such as the Africas and Asias suffer in places in abject poverty.

That's been the case now for a good couple of decades.

However, the financial climate globally is in systematic meltdown and to say the least there's a perverse imbalance in the football world of this grotesque volume of money coming into the game, particularly England, while other leagues such as our own and others struggle to raise a few million here and there.

Add to this the fact the the economy is awaiting an impending recession, with massive businesses closing down left right and centre, there are going to be sporting casualties.

With the totally skewed equilibrium in football as it currently is, it is currently in real danger of some kind of mini apocalypse.

You cannot have a business where one source has billions to play with while the rest of the sources struggle to make ends meet bar a few.

And remember, football has always been a loss business, but due to all these investments those losses were sustainable.

Now that money is a precious commodity, unless stupidly rich Arabs take over every team out there, some teams will fold this year.

I'm not sure this kind of immoral decadence by these super rich and super selfish individuals will cause any more financial problems for the game than would have existed anyway. Time will tell.

The English Premiership seems immune to any recession because of the tv money. It would need Sky to pack it in, in order to collapse.

That's an interesting point. BUT....how much longer will Sky be able to keep that league afloat? If transfers such as these happen, the top 4 will ultimately always try & go one better, or will then have to start offering similar wage packages to tempt the bigger name players to their clubs. Eventually season ticket prices, corporate packages will rocket, as well as an increase in your Sky subscritptions.

I think that if they don't set a cap on players wages soon, you will start to see some big name clubs in severe financial trouble! Of the top 4 clubs, I reckon Arsenal will be the first to have problems!

The problem that we have is that Sky isn't going to implode any time soon and neither are the gas/fuel economies from which the rich owners are making their money.

Sadly, £100m and £500k a week isn't a lot of money to The Abu Dhabi Group. It's but a drop in the ocean of their £500bil+ fortune.
