A question regarding potential European Football

Am I right in thinking that if we win on Saturday, we'll go in to the second qualifying round of the Europa? Where as Aberdeen and Hearts go in to the first qualifying round?

I'm not complaining if we get there - but why do we skip a round, I thought if anything second place Aberdeen would go in last and Scottish Cup winners first? Is it a big masonic conspiracy?

It's the only explanation mate. Wait you see the outcry if Rangers start their Euro journey a whole two weeks after the Sheep

I think (quite rightly) that winning the national cup competition is a bigger achievement than finishing a distant second in the league.

Yeah I agree mate. But second place used to get you a Champions League qualifying spot in Scotland. Now it gets you the first round Europa against a junior team from the Faroe Islands

Yep, and absolute shitehawks like Aberdeen, Motherwell, St. Johnstone and Inverness all made sure that didn't last long.

Even Celtic, but their recent failures won't be reflected for a couple of years yet.

Personally, we as one of the worlds leading clubs should enter the competition at the first round proper, and clubs like Aberdeen with a low standing in world football its only right they should come in at the first qualifying round.:P

Scottish clubs had been given four years to make a name for themselves, and Scottish football during our enforced absence from the top league and European football, but what did they do, fuck all! they have made Scottish football a laughing stock.:brokensfa:

They can now get to fuck as The Rangers Football Club is back after our unjust punishment. and will be going for title number 55 while putting some pride back into Scottish football as we do so.:21:

Can't forsee Scotland ever getting that 2nd CL spot back. We will do better in Europe than Penn State FC  (we couldn't do any worse Tbf) but even if the bheasts were vastly improved and did alright we'd still not get the other CL spot back. I think UEFA would sooner drop the coefficient.

Not only because the CL is rapidly moving towards being a closed shop (invitation only being discussed) but also because Penn State's antics, running to tell teacher on other clubs, Legia Warsaw for example, has pissed off a lot of people within European football.

If we do go straight into the 2nd qualifying round, what sort of opponents could we get? Any clubs from England, Germany, Spain etc involved at that stage?

I think it's similar down south - the FA Cup winners go straight to the group stages and the teams who finish in 5th and 6th in the PL go through the qualifiers.

You're right. Just googled it. Qualifiers are almost harder than the ones for the Champions league.

Just depends on how teams treat them really.  West Ham totally chucked the qualifiers this season.  An English team should be winning it every year when you look at their budgets compared to the rest of the teams in the EL but they never seem to take the competition seriously.

Or they just keep getting beat by better sides.  The 'English' league is massively over rated.

Scottish Cup Winners will go into the second round of EL qualifiers, first leg on July 14th.

http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/calendar2016.html

They would not play in the League Cup group stages that begin on July 16th.

If we beat Hibs we would be unseeded in the draw for the 2nd Rd of EL qualifiers which takes place on June 20th. However if we were to get through into the 3rd round of qualifiers we'd adopt the higher seeding of the team we put out for the 3rd rd draw because this draw comes between the 1st and 2nd legs of the 2nd rd.

However if we were to get through into the 4th and final round of qualifiers our seeding would revert to the original number.

EL seeding info for 16/17

Scottish football doesnt deserve to be in the CL after the past 4 years, i mean just look at the performances, not to mention UEFA having to bail out the tarriers.

Hopefully we can show that while the rest of Scottish Football has no business playing in Europe, Rangers cetainly do.

agreed, if anything you might find we lose CL football altogether as Scottish football continues it's decline.

The next revamp of Euro Football competitions will be important and almost inevitably will make it more difficult for us and other teams in the smaller leagues to get to the elite level.

It"s taken a lot more seriously by the bigger teams now there is a Champions League spot for the winners.

Its either going to be make or break for the smaller leagues. Theres been lots of talk about revamping to help the bigger teams like Barca, Bayern, ManU etc, but theres also been lots of talk about revamping to make the competition fairer to smaller Clubs, hopefully they go down the route that fans want them to - making it fairer and more competitive. Instead of going for the cash, but undoubtedly the bigger clubs will always vote for the money.

Id rather us play in a competitive European competition vs the likes of Olympiacos, Shakhtar Donetsk, Shalke 04, Valencia and St Etienne for example. Than for us to play in the CL where the odds are stacked in favour of the bigger clubs from the start.

Whatever happens it'll be money that drives decisions, that will be made mainly by those who already have most of the money and want more.
