Tam Forsyth, a Rangers Legend, played for 5 years at Motherwell before getting a transfer to Ibrox. He had time to learn the game, make mistakes and grow up. Gough, Butcher, Amoruso, Numan, to name a few, were in their mid/late 20s when they started for us. All were probably none too good at 18. And some are haranguing this lad. Madness.

I think there are 7 teams in the CL this year we've played over the last few years. None beat us over two legs, none had a better head to head against us, and only one beat us, and that was penalties. Pretty damn good if you ask me.

But it's a very short career (finished at 45?) as a referree, so I'd argue that the remuneration should be commensurate with the fact that when you move on you'd be going back to square one in you "lifetime" career. On that basis, there's next to no chance anyone with the potential for a good career outside football would effectively make themselves less employed at the age of 45 than their peers, or end up on lesser salary at 45 because you've had to go in to a job lower down the ladder. Well, that's how I'd look at it :)
