tannerall 25,935
64.000 dollar question, did they score the penalty ? Spoiler They did, made it 1-1, went to penalties and Feyenoord beat them.
Theulstervolunteer 1,859
How could the ref not see it was a clear pen in the first place ?... It looks strange but in the end it's the correct decision .... imagine that happening against the tarriers? Lol....
there'sonlyoneamoruso 1,724
That's not a shambles, that shows the system works since the correct decision was made (eventually). My only criticism with the system is that they should stop the clock while he checks the video.

ForeverAndEver 71,501
So people can score 20 seconds later and get it cancelled, 100% a shambles.
Bad Robot 21,150
A momentry lapse / human error fixed by the video playback so well done to all the refs involved in this as the correct decision was eventually made which must be applauded ? roboscot 1,176
I haven't looked at the rules/protocols surrounding this system in the Dutch league but I would imagine that the ref has to wait for the ball to go dead before he checks the video. In this case it went dead by entering the goal but could just as easily been a foul/offside/throw in etc
Thewhitesettler 2,711
They have a video ref in rugby league, and they still can't stop the argument. Sky have an ex ref, who gives his opinion on whether it's a try or not, and there's occasions where he disagrees with the video refs decision. ?? They get the majority of decisions right tho.

Jimfanciesthedude 24,546
What happens if in that 20 seconds, a player gets a career ending injury, if the video ref is needed then play should be stopped at the moment of controversy
big blue Fin 3,724
There are plenty of examples from US sports and Rugby of how this should be run and the football authorities should be talking to the people who run those sports.

Yeah. There was opportunity to stop play there with keeper having ball in hands. Blow whistle, have time out to review. Or give both teams a tennisesque challenge.
