Agreed I think some of the reactions regarding Ferguson were over the top. The bar is set much higher for him because he's such an outstanding player. Yes, he was out of form, but not anything like as bad as some would have you believe.
I mean, some people cream themselves every time Hemdani goes 90 minutes in an SPL game making short passes every time and not chasing anyone that's further than 5 yards away. He's often outstanding in europe, but too often not what's required in the SPL, and I think more fans are starting to warm to Thomson fortunately.
Barry Ferguson is a class act, and if others around him actually show some decent movement off the ball for 90 minutes (that's not just work-rate, we're talking about intelligent movement that the likes of De Boer and Cannigia used to offer), then we'll see the very best of Barry. And this has improved to be fair with Naismith and Burke playing wide, I really hope we continue with this style.
Ideally, I think we'd have Hemdani OR Thomson (Thomson for me), Ferguson and then a more natural attacking midfield player (perhaps Fleck playing that role in the future). That would be the ideal balance for me, but for now, Walter is getting it right with what he has available.
Absolutly spot on, great post
