  1. On the positive side, they are not making as many chances now and we do tend to be better in the second half of games.
  2. BBC site has us on 46% possession. I guess the time the ball's in the air counts as our ball.
  3. We look as bad as we did against Barca and Bremen are nowhere near that good.
  4. I know they're generally shitey shots, but Bremen are averaging a shot on goal every 2 minutes. I don't like that.
  5. Anybody, no matter their race, religion, etc, who needs to be encouraged to take up a profession obviously does not have the proper desire to be in that profession. Thouroughly agree that any evidence of black players being denied entry to coaching courses, denied interviews for positions they are qualified for, or rejected for a job they are patently the best candidate for would be an absolute disgrace, but this is just nonsense reporting. Plus, any and all words from the mouth of Crooks should be ignored on the principle that he is thick, monotonous and a complete cock.
  6. hehe I dont think it would matter what position you played, all 11 players including the Goal keeper would be rushing to break Aidens leg! Not me. I would be heading straight for Borat and so would my dug. :2g:
  7. 4 out of my 5 bolted last night. Yer a brave man betting anything on WBA this season. I think they've killed about 20 lines for me this season.
  8. How do you explain Gretna playing in Europe then?
  9. I've got 5 lines on for Tuesday and Wednesday. Crappy odds from ladbrokes as usual, but my pick of the lines are: 4 homes: Zenit, Hamburg, Everton, Villa = 11/1 5 aways: Rochdale, Lincoln, Peterborough, Hereford, Darlington = 54/1 The 5 aways are all from League 2 but I landed a 45/1 line doing the same a little over 2 weeks ago but with MK Dons and Stockport instead of Rochdale and Lincoln. It's a great league for Away wins.
  10. This is spot on. We struggle against teams who hold onto the ball rather than move back to front quickly. Latin-style teams generally hump us, with our best results seeming to come against the Germans, Dutch, eastern Europeans. Unfortunately, the number of latin Americans moving to eastern Europe may soon put a stop to part of that.
  11. I really miss: Pies, fish suppers, Irn Bru (I can get it , but it costs), banter, pubs. I don't miss: Scotsport, Sheep-shaggin' bassas.
  12. Exactly! It may not be the best flowing Barca esq football, but it sure as hell works! The majority of European games this season that tactic has worked and we are excellently placed to get to the 1/4s of the UEFA cup WATP Everyone also seems to forget that we don't have a Barca-esque budget anymore. Our squad cost less than one of their strikers is worth. As well as Rangers being perceived as "anti-football", Celtic seem to be perceived as some sort of swash-buckling, flair team, and yet we scored more goals in the CL group stages than they did and we've scored more goals in the league. Plus, as I believe someone mentioned in another thread: "No tims in Europe......"
  13. Absolutely zero chance of Bendtner signing for us, I am afraid. If Arsenal decided to let him go, you would be looking at £6-£7 million+ and there would be a queue of premiership clubs after him. I am also sure I remember his father saying that he would not go out on loan again after his time at Birmingham.
  14. I watch 3 or 4 Bundesliga games a week on cable (I live in a wee country next door) and I hate to tell the Doom & Gloomers this, but Werder are not all that.... As with most Bundesliga teams, they can look great going forward but there defence is average at best. They are good in the air but not too fast on the ground. Even their attacking can be predictable, with Rosenberg frequently pulling out wide left to go at the right-sided fullback and central defender (not exactly an area we are weak in) and Sanogo just battering straight down the middle onto long through balls, which are usually played on the ground. Saying that, though, Diego is annoyingly talented......
  15. No we shouldn't solely focus on domestic trophies. But by simply by getting to The Champions League the club recieves a massive financial boost, you only have to look at our results from yesterday to see that as well as giving us the chance to play some of the best teams in Europe. The UEFA Cup on the other hand offers nowhere near the money that the Champions League does and I think I'm right to say that you have to get to the final before you make the same money you do by reaching the last 16 of the Champions League. The UEFA Cup is a second rate cup and it could potentially add an extra 8 games to the fixture list and considering our backlog at the moment I don't think we can find the time for the extra 8 games. This would be true if it wasn't likely to be Werder Bremen we faced in the next round. At this stage in the UEFA cup, teams make their own TV deals for each tie and the income from games against German teams is potentially huge. You have to be prepared to deal with some odd kick off times but it is not unusual for German TV companies to pay £2-3 million for these games. I also would not rule out our chances of getting past Werder if we got that tie. They were very lucky to beat Braga 3-0 and both of their main strikers, Sanogo and Rosenberg, can be astonishingly poor sometimes. Over a knockout tie, I would not rate them far ahead of us, if at all.
  16. I've just read on another forum, that it has just been confirmed on the radio that Gretna will be in administration within the next 24 hours. Unfortunately I don't know which station. Has anyone else heard this and can confirm? Looks like Minstral was right on the money. There is also talk that if they are out of business before the season ends then all results during the current season would be void. However, I assume the administration process would take us past the end of the season but I am not exactly up on my administration/bankruptcy rules.
  17. You can bet your hairy arse the EPL and LTA are behind this......... BBC Story And do you think the bookies are going to give up a slice of their profits for this? No way at all, this will be coming off your winnings or in the form of reduced odds. As if the poor wee lambkins in the EPL need any more money... :angry2:
  18. OK, back from the pub and well rested, impressed by the number of answers found, mainly by Mike Newell, with some good topping up by a number of others. The answers are inserted below. 1 - Which Rangers legend was coach to the Scotland Victory Internationals team in 1918-1919? Bill Struth. The team was selected by committee but "managed" by a coach or trainer. 2 - Which Ranger holds the record for most games as Captain of Scotland? George Young. 54 caps for Scotland, 45 as captain 3 - How many Scotland internationals have been held at Ibrox? 20. With 13 victories, 3 draws and 4 defeats 4 - In the list of Scotland's greatest goalscorers, the top 2 to have played for Rangers are Ally McCoist, with 19 goals, and Bob Hamilton, with 15. Who is next, with 14 goals? Maurice Johnston. 10 caps and 2 goals while a Rangers player 5 - On 20th March, 1886, Rangers forward Charlie Heggie made his debut for Scotland in a game against Ireland. It was to be his only international match. Why is this so amazing? Scored 4 goals in a 7-2 victory but was never selected again. 6 - Who was Rangers youngest ever Scotland debutant, scoring on his debut vs Wales on 20th October 1962 at the age of 18 years, 8 months and 26 days? Willie Henderson. The opening goal in the game was scored by another Gers legend, Eric Caldow 7 - John Greig first captained Scotland at the age of 23 years, 1 month and 29 days in an international match in which he scored the winning goal. Who were the opposition that day? Italy. Our only victory against them in 9 attempts 8 - Who was the last Rangers player to score a hat-trick for Scotland? Colin Stein. He scored 4 in an 8-0 victory over Cyprus in May 1969 9 - Since 2001, 6 players have won 5 or more caps whilst playing for Rangers. Barry ferguson, David Weir and Kris Boyd are 3 of them, who are the other 3? I was wrong, there were 7. The other 4 were Maurice Ross, Alan Hutton, Steven Thompson and Neil McCann. I forgot McCann (well, you do, don't you?) 10 - Only 2 Rangers players have been sent off whilst on international duty for Scotland, who are they? Richard Gough and Maurice Ross. Against Switzerland and Germany, respectively Special Bonus question for geniuses and good researchers: 11 - In March 1893, John Barker of Rangers scored a hat-trick on his Scotland debut, an 8-0 thrashing of Wales at the Racecourse Ground. What was the official match attendance? My personal favourite statistic of all time, this one. The official match attendance was 4.
  19. Plus he's much better at this than any of us. I'm pretty confident that once the league title is back, and with it the guaranteed Champions league slot, there will be a wee bit of money invested in 3 or 4 quality players for next season and we will see some style return. For those who have forgotten, the first full season under Souness was a bit like this one. We weren't all that special, just a lot more solid than we had been.
  20. Ok, everyone seems a bit tense at the moment, so I thought I would throw in a little distracting quiz for the historians and Wikipedia searchers amongst you. Anyone who can get 5 or more on this without using Wikipedia or Google is a true legend. All of the questions are about Rangers and internationals for Scotland. I'm off to the pub after typing this and will come back tomorrow and play teacher if anyone bothered with some answers. 1 - Which Rangers legend was coach to the Scotland Victory Internationals team in 1918-1919? 2 - Which Ranger holds the record for most games as Captain of Scotland? 3 - How many Scotland internationals have been held at Ibrox? 4 - In the list of Scotland's greatest goalscorers, the top 2 to have played for Rangers are Ally McCoist, with 19 goals, and Bob Hamilton, with 15.
