look at some of the players that have went abroad, lewis ferguson being the prime example there's talent in the league, but for whatever reason we dont want to buy it, I'll die on the hill that if we had bought Shankland in January we'd be a good bit ahead in the league

It’s not irrelevant, you were using the current celtic teams as an example in the post I quoted and I pointed out those sides in recent years have been captained by Scottish players

I believe having 'Rangers men' or at least the best young Scottish talent, is an important identity of the club.
In hindsight, we should have signed Ferguson when we had the chance.

There was something about watchin 11 guys who loved the club playing in the colours, but aye, won't be happening again, the game is run by money not affiliation nowadays.

OP has a fair point. Rangers minded players are few and far between in the squad. They’re not essential to success, but definitely help in my opinion. I want to see characters in the dressing room. No offence to anyone, but most our current squad come across as boring bastards. They’re dreadful footballers to boot which only compounds matters.

Scottish players generally do seem to have quite a good work ethic because they are more limited on a technical side, it’s just the way our game is. It’s why our league is fast paced and physical compared to the likes of Italy or Holland, it’s why Lammers has broken a scoring record since January but was utter mince here.
We definitely have to be more open minded to signing players like Lewis Ferguson but preferably before he moved to the sheep as he would have been cheaper. The big problem is we don’t do well developing players like this as they never seem to get a good run of games to develop as they would at other clubs because they have les riding on each game whereas our support demand we win every match.

I dont agree with that, I think Souttar is a decent player who is Scottish and knows what it means to play for us, unfortunatly hes stuck next to a fucking idiot in Goldson and has hardly been played in his porper position, stick him on the right and get Balogun or someone else who can actually play and we might see why he was signed.

I don’t buy that the players are shit. We don’t get to a Europa cup final with shit players, limited players yes but not shit. The problem is they show up when it suits them and hide when it doesn’t.
We’ve also taken big gambles on players who will be good if we can get them firing again (be it injury or drop in form over the years) as they are cheaper than buying the players in their prime. Far too many of them have been failed experiments.
The trick is to spot talent and aptitude in younger players before they make it, sign them when they are cheap enough to take a punt on them,  embed them in a squad with positive role models so that they follow suit, then sell them on when they outgrow the club.

I don’t think they need to support the club they play for but there’s definitely evidence that it benefits the side to have someone from the country involved.
Almost every single successful team be it us or them has been littered with Scottish internationalists at the core of it.

There’s actually an argument that it benefits you to have Scottish players in the side that do understand what it means to play for the clubs. Their captains almost constantly fit that role

Not signing Ferguson will potentially be our losing out on McGinn.

It doesn’t need to be ‘Rangers men’ just people who know what’s expected of them and can take a bit of responsibility
Pedro said about 6 years ago that what we needed was men, 6 managers later we still don’t have any

McCausland is a “Rangers man”, but what we actually need are decent footballers who want to win silverware
Tbf to McCausland in his limited time on the pitch last night you could see he wanted to try impact the game, he just doesn’t have the quality to do it himself and nobody else around him could be bothered apparently

Do you think the players for Dundee last night were Dundee men?
They were busting an absolute gut both defensively and offensively. At one point in the second half when Dundee had someone at the back post unmarked it took about 4 seconds before our midfield were visible and were just jogging back. This isn’t because they don’t support Rangers they just have an incredibly bad mentality, you can’t argue they were knackered because none of them ended up on the grass with cramp

Maybe something in this we have no heart
The past recipe was a Scottish spine to the team with foreign players giving us some flair and creativity
All other Scottish teams beat us in one aspect hunger and desire if they can do it for them why not us

For what we spend on "Talent out of our own league it's madness,
    Sick of saying it.
Right now, Mivoski , Shankland, Armstrong, Miller,   (*Beck  Berich)
Could all come and improve our squad and all play,/played in the Spl.
Look at some players we had here that we would not have looked at that look like real losses.
I know this league is different to all others and sometimes finding the right club and league is key.

I think it’s up to the manager to instil this in the squad. The manager needs to lay down the law for unacceptable performances and results.
We are all rightly pissed off with the last couple of weeks but simply giving the hairdryer treatment isn’t going to change things.
What we do need are leaders on the park and again this doesn’t mean Rangers men and it needs a strong hand off the park too. Clement will know better than any of us how to handle each player in the squad. Some need an arm around them and encouragement whilst others need a stern word and others maybe react best to being dropped and so on.
if you get enough of the right characters in the squad the best elements of their traits and personalities rub off each other but get it wrong and you get what we have….acceptance of second best and total lack of accountability, no one stands up to take the game by the scruff of the next (again don’t need to be a Rangers man to do that)

    Missed a few .
    Davis being the main one.
    Arfield.
    Mcgregor.
Having players that can play in this league is more important.
Recruitment to do they fit the style of football here.
Many big names and things have come and crumbled.
Many Rangers men have been shite too. Even if they do care more.

Our main issue for us is what we pay and the contracts we give out.
Often most the player will ever get and we are their celling.
It's okay to be a stepping stone for players going into be great.
It's disheartening paying off players, contracts running out as they are not wanted.
Young and hungry with milestones to be met and rewarded it the key.
If they support Rangers yeah it maybe adds a little and they want to be successfull here for a different reason.

The days of picking up talented Scottish players who have already proven themselves at a decent level for 2-2.5 million are long gone.
The support constantly turn their noses up at ones who could be good enough when we still have a chance to get them, but by the time they move on elsewhere and prove themselves as being capable they are outwith our reach financially.
Unless there is a massive change in attitude and mentality among a large section of the support, I just don’t see where we find them at.

What does Alex Rae bring exactly?  Is he paid to talk tough at half time or something?

The whole "Rangers men" schtick doesn't wash with me.  I would however say that we need to have some Scottish players who understand domestic football. We play in a league that absolutely requires a 'grinding out' of results in some games, last night being the perfect example, a Wednesday night a pitch that's a bit of a bog, we need some very direct options.  This is why I think Shankland will be a good signing.

In recent years we have had Allan McGregor, Ryan Jack, Andy Halliday, Scott Arfield & Steven Davis at the club and we have still collapsed multiple times.
It’s never brought up as an issue until we go on a bad run and then suddenly there’s a clamour for it among a small section of the support.

Modern football is different from 30 years or so ago.
We just need professionals who take pride in their work, who listen to instructions from the manager and give it their all. It’s not a requirement that they are supporters but if it’s possible to get that as well it’ll give them that 10% more determination in each game.
Being able to handle pressure isn’t something you get by being a Rangers fan.
