  1. Their finances have been a complete mess for years. Even when Gold and Sullivan were in charge their entire business model was based around having saleable assets (the players - I suppose all clubs are to an extent), the club didn't actually have any money. They would overvalue their players, and use these figures to make their accounts read better. In terms of owning property and the like, they have had almost nothing. They've been teetering on the brink for years and probably would have gone into administration had they not been promoted in the 08/09 season. Basically, they were entirely dependent on selling their star players for good money, but with people like McFadden leaving for nothing, they no longer have the assets to stay afloat. Also, their present owners have always been suspect, having not had the funds to take over when he had attempted to do so in the past. The financial backing of Carson Yeung really should have been looked into more.
  2. One word to describe the spelling in this thread: Embarrassing (WTF is incepit - insipid?)
  3. Is Davis playing in the middle or on the right? Hopefully it is in the middle, as I can't bear the thought of another Edu + McCulloch pairing.
  4. EVERYONE POSTING SARCASTIC RESPONSES IN CAPITAL LETTERS IS BECOMING TIRESOME. I do, however, agree with those criticising the intellectual quality of this thread.
  5. Hopefuly he shouldn't be on a huge wage either, as Palermo seem pay quite poorly in comparison to other clubs of their stature. Apparently he was taking home €400,000 (net) per season (not that I would complain about that sort of money).
  6. Wouldn't surprise me if this is the squad. GK - Allan McGregor* (Scotland/Rangers) GK - Jason Steele (England/Middlesbrough) RB - Kyle Walker (England/Spurs) RB - Chris Gunter (Wales/NF) - didn't make it at Spurs but still a quality player and can play either side CB - Chris Smalling (England/MU) CB - Phil Jones (England/MU) CB - Danny Wilson (Scotland/Liverpool) LB - Kieron Gibbs (England/Arsenal) Mid - Barry Bannan (Scotland/Villa) - I know he's mainly a left sided mid but he can play anywhere in midfield RM - Alex Oxlade Chamberlain (England/Southampton) CM - Jack Wilshere (England/Arsenal) CM - Josh McEachran (England/Chelsea) CM - Aaron Ramsay (Wales/Arsenal) LM - Gareth Bale (Wales/Spurs) - Can cover LB if needed CF - Daniel Sturridge (England/Chelsea) CF - David Goodwillie (Scotland/DU) CF - Andy Carroll (England/Liverpool) - Unfortunately . What a cunt of a man. CF - Kyle Lafferty* (NI/Rangers) - Couldn't think of anyone young enough from NI. Manager - Stuart Pearce :anguish: :anguish: :anguish: Actually come to think of it, considering he is the most likely candidate, he will probably jsut use it as a chance to test out his England U-21s at a higher level (along with a few token other nationalities in the squad - probably all from EPL clubs). My Team Would Be (from that squad) McGregor Walker Smalling Wilson Gibbs Bannan Ramsey Wilshere Bale Sturridge Goodwillie
  7. Anyone know a good way of getting rid of unwanted youth players? I have an under-20s squad of 65 players (some of them are in my reserves to make sure they don't get picked for the youth team) and was hoping to offload the shit ones. Unfortunately no-one wants to buy them even if I offer them for free and I don't want to have to pay them all off (even though it would only be a few grand each).
  8. Just had a message to tell me that one of my former player's international careers could be over, after he wasn't picked in the most recent Poland squad. To be honest I would have been more surprised if he had been called up, considering he retired to become one of my coaches last month.
  9. :mcgregor: :whittaker: :bougherra: :weir: :papac: :ortiz: :davis: :3070edu: :wylde: :jelavic: I'd probably go with this line up. Maybe McCulloch instead of Edu.
  10. Having Davis in midield with either McCulloch or Edu would be the best option, with the potential for Ness to become involved. McCulloch and Edu together is just too lacking in imagination.
  11. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at some of the stuff I've seen in the Bears Den today.
  12. naw its pyoor like craig whyte needs to start splashing the cast or we willnae get anywhere. ffs its a disgrace WATP
  13. Similar to mine really, but I might have given Whittaker a 5 and maybe increased McCulloch's and Broadfoot's by half a point.
  14. Some of the posts in this thread.
  15. I thought Ortiz was reasonable today. I suspect he'll get far more joy against some of the SPL's other full backs. Hopefully he will be playing on the right side in future though, as he is clearly uncomfortable using his left side. Did enough, IMO to suggest that he could become a good asset for the team.
  16. It seems that this, sensible enough, thread had deteriorated long before I got here. So, to tow the party line, he's "pyoor shite likes".
  17. TBF, Templeton raped him in the previous game we played Hearts, even more so than this time. I just think that his defending from a wide position can be suspect at times and he still often commits himself too early. Hopefully this is something he can work on, as he usually does bring a lot to the team.
  18. I'm not getting what all the hate for McCulloch on here is about. Yes, he's no Pirlo, but I thought he was quite effective today and generally used the ball well (made some excellent passes). The only real issue I had with him was his lack of mobility. I can't help but feel that several posters are jumping on the "bandwagon" (to use a Martin Luther term). If there was any major issue with the team, it was the defence. In the first half we were cut open time and time again. Also, we allowed far to many crosses into the box and looked suspect with defending set pieces. All of this is stuff that can be remedied though, so please refrain from throwing yourselves off a bridge.
  19. Obviously I'm gutted it's only a draw, but considering the chances they had (in the first half) and the fact we were playing the third best team in the country, it's hardly a disaster. Yes, we should be beating them, but on another day Jelavic's goal wouldn't have been flagged offside and we would have won. I'm just saying that it's not a complete shock that we didn't beat Hearts and we shouldn't get despondent over it.
  20. I'll take a draw tbh. We'll face few better teams than Hearts.
