The classic Protestant v Catholic clash of recent times, I'd say. :broadfoot: I've never watched the game in detail but I'd imagine the Swiss rode their luck a little bit. That Spanish team was not very inspired throughout that tournament. Just got down to it, played their game and got the results. If I remember the final, Robbyn had one great chance and blew it. The Spaniards were not so wasteful and that's been the bottom line of their success.

*** The Official Champions V St Mirren Thread ***
Whyte N McKay replied to Broxi's topic in Jimmy Bell's Kitroom
Well it's been umpteen years since St Mirren even took a point off Rangers (ok, so they beat us in 2009) so it'd be shocking if they did something tomorrow. Every game we play improves the understanding between the new players and the old so it's hopefully just another game in a run that lasts to Christmas and beyond. You don't win leagues by dropping too many points in these games. Hearts had to be excellent to get a point on the opening day. St Mirren will have to be lucky as fuck. -
I could see Smith taking a punt on somebody like McFadden but not McCoist.

Hooper Off For £7 Million?
Whyte N McKay replied to NorthernLights's topic in General Football & Sport
How about Hooper and Boyd? Would you swop Boyd's 100 goals against everybody else for Hoopers dirty half-dozen against us? -
I've never liked McCulloch but I will grudgingly admit he did play an important role for 2-in-a-row. Scored a cracking header against Celtic if I remember correctly. I thought he never really recovered from his operation last season. But the perfect McCulloch moment for me was the Maribor game, 1-1, with minutes to go. The Maribor player comes flying down the wing and McCulloch...sticks his arms out. We know the rest. I think the embaressing Falkirk defeat will be his last meaningful game for the club. At the end of the day McCulloch is neither a midfielder or a defender. I also think he's one of the guys who is just happy to be here. It's been the best period of his career, like a few others, but if Rangers want to move on up, McCulloch has got to move on.

Since you're the spiritual heir of Adam Smith's great legacy why don't you tell me?

Your cause might be served a little better if you didn't think you knew it all. Ultimately it boils down to this. If you gain independance you'll be in competition with England. If I remember correctly it's precisely that problem that led to the Act of Union in the first place.

Will it be billed as the Second Best Pub in the World or will it share the honour of being the Best Pub in the World with the Duke Street Establishment?

Peter Lawell 'ira Chants Are Embarrassing'
Whyte N McKay replied to keithgersbear's topic in General Football & Sport
He's got a battle on his hands then. -
...and to go back to my point, in this hypothetical Scottish state, I find it very hard to believe that Salmond would be willing to make Scotland the Corporate Tax Haven it would have to be to attract the investment it would require. You're saying that Scotland is making a profit but it's doing so as a part of the United Kingdom. You wouldn't have the huge financial clout of the City of London behind you if you went independant.

Peter Lawell 'ira Chants Are Embarrassing'
Whyte N McKay replied to keithgersbear's topic in General Football & Sport
To be fair he wouldn't have talked about it if he'd had some reason to do so. They didn't say two words about what was actually being sung during the Falkirk 'shame' game of a few seasons ago. Celtic attendances are way down and from the little I've heard if yer no with ǝpɐbıɹq uǝǝɹb ǝɥʇ you're against them. -
Aw, is he no tipped for ra Barcelona job when Pep decides to follow his heart and take over from Neil Lennon?

Used to drink in there before the match and although it was good furra wee shing shong (hic!) I wouldn't swap it for the salubrious comforts of Partick.

Yeah, get him out of the cotton wool wrapping and let him get his hands dirty I'd say.

I'm glad you're not my gaffer! Written off before I've had a chance to get my leg broken!

I'd expect him to play next week instead but I hope I'm wrong.
