Maybe you could ask rangercall.com and other podcasts to give the cause a shout out, It important to get to the bottom of the leaks. Personally i think Rangers and HMRC have been victims of NOTW tactics. GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!

I found this part of the statement sad
The press have a lot to answer for, hopefully when the new laws are past it will stop them printing these negative stories.

CG knows what he should and shouldn't be saying to the press. How does what he said affect Rangers, when this is his personal view and not that of the club?
Over the past week we've had:
    - Craig Whyte trying to take the Club for £50m.
    - The SPL hitting us with a 500k bill.
    - The SFA hitting us with another bill.
    - Rangers internet bloggers claiming we're skint and going in to Admin again.
    - 62 complaints to the ASA
shouldn't we be more focused on the issues that are affecting Rangers.

Listening now, good point he's making about the sky contract. if they do know the details they should inform all clubs

We started as a team for the love of football.
These songs were not song then, and probably not prior to the 1920's.
I don't have a problem with them generally, but if it's going to get the team in trouble, they need to stop.
We are having a new start here, lets make the best of it.

Singing these songs is like playing Russian roulette. In the past these songs have cost the club serious money that could have been spent on players etc. Maybe Charles is right and we lead by example.

Perhaps you'd be better signing off "Welcome to Scotland 2013".
Go up to a policemen (inside or outside Ibrox) and sign the songs you believe you should be allowed to sing. The ones he doesn't arrest you for, you can keep singing.
If you don't want to do that, get involved in a political campaign to change the law, or even to lobby for a list of acceptable (or banned) songs. Without one or both, I'd suggest putting Rangers first and not singing anything that will get the Club into trouble/fined/banned.
Yes, I agree, life's not fair.

Some of the responses here are unbelievable; I thought the anti-Charles Green brigade had severely fractured, but when he comes out with a completely valid point, the haters pour through the cracks.
Firstly, nobody is buying into the 'what songs can we sing?' crap. Every supporter knows that the 'up to our knees' line, and anything involving derogatory remarks about 'him' in Rome are going to get us in hot water with either the SFA, or at some point, UEFA. There are so much more that the BF1 sing, and even when the police were filling up the shed at Berwick, the fans never piped down, and continued singing away non-sectarian songs. Rightly or wrongly, we live in an era where fans are not going to be allowed to get away with this. I know the Scumdee Hibs supporters got away with it not long ago, and that, frankly, is fucking atrocious, but let's just focus on our own club.
Secondly, if those songs were to come back, our club will get heavily fined. Do we really want to see that for a club that was on it's knees? Charles Green and the club itself are not at fault for these songs, so why should they be punished for it? And what if UEFA impose a hefty fine, or ban us from Europe? Was it really worth it? Charles Green, I believe as a few have mentioned, it wanting our reputation to be kept above water as the whole world is looking in at our club, more than ever before. The last thing we need is damaging headlines (and I'm not talking about piss-poor journalists from here), when everyone is in awe of the support turning up at Ibrox.
Charles Green isn't asking the support to stand in silence; he is looking at the bigger picture, and all he asks is to stop singing a couple of songs. That's all.
And as for the anti-Charles Green brigade who are going to dislike him just for the sake of it, remember Ally publicly criticised the sectarian songs. So if you don't want to listen to Green, listen to Ally, because the club will get its arsed kicked through this.

If you want the right to sing derogatory things about the pope, you'll need to lobby politicians to change the (absurd) law, and lobby UEFA to permit TBB etc. Until you are successful, please put Rangers first. I don't want to see anyone arrested or banned, but it's (unfortunately) inevitable if you sing certain songs.

I want to know, from any of you, why singing songs about Catholics or the pope has to be done at the match? If you feel as strongly about the subject as you say, why not have a march, walk or organise some sort of demo away from the football? It would have a much bigger impact. Can someone just tell me that please. Why it's important to do that kind of singing at the match. And because Celtic, hibs or whoever do it as well is not a valid reason.
