Aye , lost 3-2 to united after being 2-0 up and struggled against Falkirk at home as well after the opening day defeat at the Edinburgh junkies . For me , it was only when we beat Hamilton at home in the January when we had Ian Durrant sent off that I allowed myself to think that "this might just be the year" . Beating the tarriers at New year in the manner we did was great but TBH even in the Greig/Wallace lean years we were still able to give them a few going overs , winning games against the lesser teams was always a thing we struggled with up to then .
Aye we beat Dundee Utd 2-0 the week before the New Year win over celtic. I'm sure Fleck and McCoist scored in both games.
We hadn't beaten them in the league for ages before then. As you said we were able to hold our own against the tarriers, but we always came unstuck against the "New Firm".
I remember being genuinely shocked when Accies knocked us out the cup that season, something I wouldn't have been able to say the few years before.
Bloody Adrian Sprott.

Pre Souness it was not unusual to roll up at the stand of your choice , or the smallest queue , at ten to three . You then paid your cash and had time to have a pish , buy a pie/Bovril and still be in a seat before kick off ? Even the first few home games of the Souness era while a lot busier , were still only watched by the types of numbers we were used to when facing the tarriers or the sheep . Took a few months and the realization that this might be more than some of the previous false dawns before we were facing the prospect of sell outs and all ticket games .
I'm sure we lost two of our first three games that season, and one of them was at home to Dundee Utd.
A lot of mutterings were that it was the same old shite, then we beat celtic at the end of the month.
But it wasn't until the 2-0 win over Aberdeen the month after, that the Souness Revolution really started to kick-in and folk started to realise 'hold on a minute...'
Souness scored in that game as well. Fergie left Aberdeen for Old Trafford not long after.

I think a lot of the older Bears decided not to bother at the time, as the seated stadium didn't have the same atmosphere as the old terraces.
It didn't help we were absolute dross though, albeit winning the odd League Cup.
Aberdeen, Dundee Utd and Hearts all had really decent teams in the 80s.

We need to sort the O-Line and replace Eli.
Barkley looks outrageous.
Yeah the O-Line needs major surgery. It doesn't help that Eli is a half-step slower now and can't get the pass off as quick.
He barely has a chance to go through his progressions, before there's a LB in his face.
As great a talent as Barkley undoubtedly is, I just hope it isn't wasted as he was carrying that Giants' offense last night.
OBJ on the other hand, was storming off the field and throwing hissy-fits on the sidelines.

Look away if you're a Giants fan.
The NFC East really is trash this year. If it wasn't for Saquon Barkley, the Giants wouldn't have any offense at all.
The Giants really need to clean house. Take Eli round the back of the Metlife and put him out of his misery, as well as trading that man-child OBJ.
He's just gonna end up stinking out that locker-room like Dez did for the Cowboys.
I know the Giants are a rival to the Cowboys, but I have a lot more respect for them than I do the Deadskins or the Trashbirds.

Buzzing for this Sunday! Got my tickets for all 3 games through the post this week!
Seahawks fan and genuinely excited to see them in the flesh. Hope they maul the Raiders.
I know the Seahawks are over the hump post-LOB, but they should still have enough to take care of the Raiders.

Maybe the Newcastle fans meant Rafa Benitez was getting sacked in the morning.

Getting sacked in the morning?
He’ll probably be out on his ear before MOTD’s on.

Oh yeah the Parkheid bottle incident. Season 84/85. Replayed match at Old Trafford. Their keeper got assaulted on the pitch. Everton beat them 3-1 in the Final in Rotterdam. Then lost to Man Utd 3 days later in FA Cup Final at Wembley, with Whiteside winner in extra time.
That was a mental season with the Bradford City fire and Heysel disaster.

I read there were rumours that DJ and Koepka had to be dragged apart during a post-cup bevvy.

I remember seeing a ball boy getting one of those pies right off the napper. Nearly knocked the poor wee bugger clean out.
Couldn't tell if it came from the Broomloan or Govan. Needless to say I was still chuckling away on the way back home.
