I know it states "Wembley Wizards" but the player on the opposite end from Alan Morton looks like Bob McPhail , next to Hughie Gallacher . Also the player 3rd from the right as we look , next to the keeper looks like Rangers great Andy Cunningham .

    Some random stuff
Top pictures from the Queens Silver Jubilee game at Hampden 1977 , Sandy Jardine scored a penalty kick . Eric Caldow leading out Scotland at Wembley 1961 , Bobby Shearer also there , and Tom Sutherland the Rangers reserve player who was held hostage in Beruit along with Terry Waite and Brian Keenan

It's a scotland team alright but not the Wembley Wizards. Only Alan Morton played that day and both McPhail and Cunningham are in that picture

    That is all very valid.
From that period onwards young boys have also been coached more and I believe it has actually stopped natural talent.  When I was at school  etc, the teacher or whoever took the team, picked a side and that was basically that.  A bit of training during the week but not much more.  Even at amateur level a bit older there was training which centred more on fitness with some ball-work and a bounce game amongst ourselves.  You practiced playing skills yourself or with a few mates elsewhere.  There wasn't the same crap from parents etc at the pitch side either.

I think a few things all happened around the same time TBH , The teachers strike of about '78-79 also IMO played a part , as they no longer took to do with schools football outwith the working day in the same way as they previously done , leading to a decline in the number of boys playing regularly , most schools in my area went from having 2-3 teams for each year to be lucky to sustaining 1 due to the lack of adult supervision .
As you say , competitive reserve team football against men who are playing to earn a contract to sustain their living , and boys eager to move up to first team status is more likely to be of benefit to both players and coaches than playing under age football or glorified bounce games .

Felt McGrain was better at RB, yes McGrain was played on the left so both could play was my understanding at the time, that said neither could hold a candle to Tierney ===

Possibly this; Only four months after the scum had been crowned European Champions, Rangers defeated them 1-0 at Ibrox, in front of 90,000 fans, thanks to a wonderful solo goal from Orjan Persson.
Unfortunately the beauty of this goal and this win was overshadowed by a filthy crude tackle in the 4th minute of the game by the scum's Bertie Auld, that resulted in a horrific broken leg for Davie Provan.

Don't have a bad word to say about Wilson and wish him all the best. He really came onto a game in the last few months, so it definitely leaves a 'what if'. Especially if Martin was the one to replace him and his wage.
Sad if it did pan out that way too, not very professional at all. But if the Club believe it's for the best then we have to trust them.

This, not the firstGers player to do something similar and won't be the last,  too many folk determined to be offended by everything.  Not a fan of Windass but the overreaction is ridiculous.

How fucking fortunate were we to witness not only Paul Gascoigne play at probably his best and most consistent , but also we had Brian Laudrup   And to think that most of us back then took it for granted that a Rangers side would have such talent ( genuine world class ) . I live in hope that at some point in the not too distant future that the younger generation of our support that missed out on those and Advocaat's first 2 seasons will have the chance to witness something close to what we were lucky to see , Fuck knows but they deserve it .

The great Eric Caldow was given a personal tour of Ibrox this week.
Signed by Bill Struth in 1952 from Muirkirk Jnrs, he made 407 apps,
winning 5 Titles, 2 Scot Cups & 3 Lge Cups & was Captain in 1961 ECWC Final.
    A real Rangers Legend.

Watt was a really good fighter and a well respected world champion but I think the consensus was that Buchanan(who was just before my time) was the better fighter and beat Watt in 1973,the guys you mentioned weren't in the same class as Watt and Buchanan.
