Walter Smith could show his trophy record and had plenty of goodwill in the bank, so he could drop McCoist, Goram, Gazza and send a message. Stevie G had credibility from the off from his playing career and leadership as a captain. Beale has none of that, in Tav and Goldson's eyes he's probably still a number 2. He needs to take the players with him and can't risk any dissent and that make taking difficult decisions very difficult.
