KENNY McDOWALL is hoping that Kye Lafferty will be the only casualty from the international break as Rangers get ready to return to SPL action this weekend.

Lafferty has been released from the Northern Ireland squad and is returning to Murray Park as a result of a knee injury he picked up in last Saturday's 1-1 draw with Poland in which he scored a terrific goal.

Now McDowall is hoping that the rest of Rangers' international stars return unscathed. Davie Weir, Kenny Miller, Stevie Whittaker and Stevie Naismith are all on duty for Scotland while Steve Davis will play for Nothern Ireland against Slovakia.

He told Rangers World: "By all accounts Kyle played very well and he scored a good goal but he now rejoins us because of the knock he picked up.

"We are not sure just how bad it is but we will have him assessed by the medical team.

"He has now served his suspension in terms of the SPL and he is available for us now so we are excited about him being available again but we are not quire sure of his fitness.

"The main worry during international breaks is that players may come back injured but you just have to deal with it.

"Hopefully the rest of our players will come back unscathed.

"International breaks are difficult. When it is a World Cup year you understand the importance of them but when you are in good form, as we had been, then it stops the momentum a bit.

"You don't want to stop when you get a bit of a run going but unfortunately we have had to."

Well done Nigel Worthington, and his backroom staff (tu)

Thankfully it looks like nothing serious.

Now it's time for Lafferty to shine in a Rangers jersey.

Agree with that, something Burley, and, at times our own staff should look to improve on
