Our fitness levels

Was a big talking point last season but if you look at us now, our players seem leaner. Kris Boyd must be putting in the work in training. His movement is much better.

Walter seems to of notched up the training sessions because you can clearly see we have a much fitter squad now.

Agreed we seem so much fitter and closing opponents down for 90mins! Adam owen must take some credit! (tu)

totally agree. i remember a couple of years back walter saying his aim was to make us "a hard team to beat". he did that and bought the t-shirt in manchester. now he is focusing on techniques, tactics and all around gameplay - something that was never going to click into place over the summer like many had suggested. it took time but now, finally, we are seeing exactly what walter had in mind.

walter was labelled a dinosaur finding it hard to keep up with modern managers like mourinho. just remember, wenger and ferguson are dinosaurs too and the three of them together evidently know their stuff!

Funny how we have a physically fit squad when we are winning but when we are playing poor we have poor fitness levels.

It's a funny old game... :)

When we did get bad results, some of it was down to a lack of closing the opposition down, getting tired etc. Now though we are much fitter. More running power in the side.

Maybe something to do with our new found fondness of passing the ball.

Cuts the needless running from our game.

It helps that we actually close down the other team now. Its actually hard for a team to get the ball past the likes of Boyd, Miller, Novo and Beasley/Lafferty because they all shut there man down and cause teams to either go long or play a poor pass resulting in us getting possession.

Our whole team is looking fitter and we are scoring more goals late on because teams can't cope with our pace and stamina. Its amazing the difference a few weeks can make!

We are seeing a lot more of the ball, not giving it away, trying to win it back as much, chasing shadow's....

It's a hell of a lot easier when you have the ball, and due to more possession, ball retention, use of the ball....we are taking advantage of that. The players are working harder, putting pressure on the opposition, and winning the ball back, along with keeping onto it, and as a result, we are looking like a football team. Better attitude, determination, spirit, and fitness!

Personally I think its more a mental thing. a change of attitude coupled with a change in tactics. i.e. closing people down further up the park; playing wingers with pace; a balance to the team; hard work chanelled in the right direction.
