Wembley To Host CL Final Again In 2013 ?

Wembley Stadium is the front-runner to be named venue for the 2013 Champions League final by Uefa.

European football's governing body will make the decision at an executive committee meeting on Thursday and Wembley, which hosted this year's final in May, is believed to be favourite.

It is the Football Association's 150th anniversary in 2013 and it may persuade Uefa to return the game to the stadium.

Wembley's hosting of this year's final was a resounding success.

Barcelona produced a magnificent performance to beat Premier League champions Manchester United 3-1, inspired by the brilliant Lionel Messi.

As well as being a commercial triumph for Uefa, it also proved to be simple in terms of organisation, with no need to book extra marquees for hospitality events or media or any issues about technology.

If Wembley is chosen, some tickets are likely to be cheaper in 2013. In April, Uefa president Michel Platini apologised for the high cost of tickets and said they would consider introducing a cheaper category for families for future finals.

The cheapest tickets on general sale for the 2011 final were priced at £150 plus a £26 administration fee and the cheapest package for one adult and one child was only available in category two seats costing £338.

Platini said then: "It was a mistake, it was not good. But it is not easy to decide the price of the tickets in the Champions League final.

"Perhaps in the future we have to have another category for families that is less expensive. But if you put those on the black market how much will they cost?"

Why would they consider this after it only hosted it this year ? Anniversary or no anniversary, they should have thought of this prior to naming it for this years final.

think it's basically because of how smoothly and easily the last one was run, wonder what they'll be saying when the mighty rangers head to Wembley 2013 :crabflute:

Was there any CL fianal at Hampden or Ibrox btw ?

Hampden in 2002 or somewhere around there. The one where Zidane scored that goal against Bayer Leverkusen

Also many years ago in the 1960's at Hampden, where Real Madrid beat Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 :sherlock:

Happy memories for Real on both occasions !

Soon 10 years without a CL Final in Scotland then (td)

why? its a fucking shocker of a stadium and certainly doesnt have the capacity to grace such a final

i fucking hate hampden with a passion

10 years without a final ffs !!

Football is very popular in Scotland, and that could improve Scottish football reputation that was damaged by this season's rows off the pitch (tu)

but uefa wont want a sub standard final because of the stadium

the pitch at hampden is always fucked, the capacity is pish, the stadium design doesnt lend to good atmosphere, and glasgow tbh isnt the best to hold a final in terms of transport and other amenities, especially around the stadium

The SFA should try to improve the stadium then. I've never visited Hampden, I'd like to though, but if it is really that bad then works need to be done.

wembley should be in the running every season

it has the in-stadium facilities, including capacity, and the transport links to it are top nothc apparently

and then london isnt exactly a small place to host the final,

its been a different venue for god knows how many years and should continue like that imo

Yeah there has been major finals at Hampden but none at Ibrox despite it being a UEFA 5 star stadium long before hampden.

Damn those pesky masonic bastards at UEFA and the SFA clear discrimination.

Quite clearly a shadowy conspiracy at work.
