Boab 73
I'd be sad for Sven, like him. Read one a book of his and always have though do feel he became a bit wrapped up in the England hype at times.
Muff 245
Quality manager, that Thaksin Shinawatra might have money but he is clueless. Sven deserves a better club anyway. 76% winning record with Benfica and almost a 60% record with Lazio and England.
Boab 73
My future is in doubt, Manchester City manager Sven tells his squad By IAN LADYMAN - More by this author » Last updated at 23:43pm on 28th April 2008 Comments Comments Sven Goran Eriksson's position as Manchester City manager was looking untenable last night after he told his players he had grave doubts about his future at the club. With City owner Thaksin Shinawatra deeply unsure about his manager's capabilities and the former England coach growing tired of his working environment, Eriksson called his squad together yesterday to outline a depressing vision of the future. Though Eriksson, 60, stressed that he was not about to resign - a stance backed up later by a City statement - he told his players he could not guarantee he would still be at the club beyond the end of the season and urged them to 'play for yourselves' over the last two games. Scroll down for more It would now appear almost inevitable that Eriksson will leave. City players are believed to be disappointed by the news that came 24 hours after Eriksson had an unsatisfactory meeting with Thaksin in Manchester. It is understood that Eriksson left the meeting concerned by what he saw as a lack of clarity about the way forward and the complete absence of assurances about his position as manager. Last night Eriksson was in London with City officials and growing concerns for his future prompted the club to issue a statement. A City spokesman said: "Sven Goran Eriksson will be at Carrington tomorrow morning to take training as normal. He has confirmed that he has no plans to leave the club." Thaksin is particularly disappointed with the performance of some of the players Eriksson signed last summer. On Saturday, he was in typically vague form when asked about Eriksson's future. When asked if he would retain the Swede, Thaksin said only: "We will find the best solution for the club." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...d=1779&ct=

bluenose_72 198
Sven-Goran Eriksson has been told he will be sacked as Manchester City manager at the end of the season, BBC Sport understands. City owner Thaksin Shinawatra told Eriksson he was "not the right man for the job" at a meeting on Sunday, a source close to the manager said. Eriksson informed the players at training on Monday that he would be dismissed, provoking an angry response. The Swede, who has two years left on his contract, says he will not resign. Shinawatra has been unhappy with City's results since the turn of the year. The Thai billionaire was at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday to watch his team throw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 against Fulham. Afterwards, he held a meeting with Eriksson and told him he would be dismissed after their final two games of the season. "Sven reacted calmly, as usual, but he was very surprised and disappointed," the source told BBC Sport. "He doesn't want to leave the club and will not resign. He loves working with the players and his work at Manchester City has only just begun." The club is refusing to comment about Eriksson's future. Eriksson took over as City manager five weeks before the start of the season and the team occupied third spot in the Premiership in November. However, their form has faltered badly since Christmas and they now lie ninth, having won just four of their last 15 games. "The team has not been playing as well as it should have or getting the right results since Christmas," said the source. "But overall it has been a good season. Thaksin agreed a five-year plan with Sven in the summer and the target for the first year was to finish in the top 10." Shinawatra bankrolled eight summer signings at a cost of more than £46m shortly after buying the club, but BBC Sport understands he has had no direct contact with Eriksson in the second half of the season. "They met several times personally at the start of the season and then nothing," said the source. "Sven has had a list of players he wants to sign next summer for several weeks, but he hasn't been able to get the go-ahead to get them. "He talks to (City chief executive) Alistair Macintosh, but things break down when he then goes to the chairman." The City players are understood to have reacted with a mixture of shock and anger when Eriksson told them he would be leaving. Last week, City defender Micah Richards said the players were "100% behind" Eriksson in his BBC Sport website column. "I think it is crazy that his job is even being talked about as being in danger - he has been good for everyone at City," Richards said.

Honestly my mind's boggled at this, it'd be like us sacking Smith if he didn't win all 4 trophies. I don't like to make sweeping statements without knowing more facts, but christ that Thaksin is a wanker.

Guest Andypendek
that's not the point, tho - this shows that even if someone else did well, all they would need would be a half season slump and the wee crook would sack them as well. this is total crap. betcha newcastle are gutted they got keegan back now. and if alex mcleish keeps brum up, betcha that's where he goes. Muff 245
Is he(Shinawatra)not wanting some Brazilian guy to take-over, or was that for another role at the club? He has one chance of landing Jose Mourinho....no chance! You don't get much better than Sven. That's why owners' like this are no use. They might stump up the cash but they are f*kn clueless. Boab 73
Sven Goran Eriksson is expected to lead Manchester City on an end-of-season tour to Asia. According to reports, Erikssonwill be sacked after the final two games of the campaign, but City owner Thaksin Shinawatra's son Panthongtae claims Eriksson will still be manager when City play games in Thailand and Hong Kong. Speaking to reporters in Thailand, Panthongtae said of Eriksson: "He will lead the squad to Thailand." City are due to arrive in Thailand on 14th May and will play against a Thailand Premier All-Stars team before playing two matches in Hong Kong later in the month. Eriksson has only been in the City job for one season, but appears to have failed to impress owner Thaksin. http://www.worldsoccer.com/news/Eriksson_t...ews_255189.html
