Now this would definitely be one for the future!

Gers eye Serie A kid in Rino replay

by Thomas Jordan

RANGERS could be attempting to unearth a new Rino Gattuso as they target Bologna teenager Jacopo Mantovani.

The Ibrox club are believed to be considering trying to exploit an Italian loophole that would allow the 17-year-old midfielder to leave for a fraction of what he is currently worth.

Walter Smith was the man who snatched the unknown Gattuso - who has since gone on to win the Champions League with AC Milan and the World Cup with Italy - at the age of 19 from Perugia and it seems Mantovani could switch to Scotland in a similar move.

Bologna have already lost 16-year-old Fabio Borini to Chelsea, and they now fear the Light Blues will attempt to snatch Mantovani.

Academy chief Giancarlo Marocchi said: "We know which sides follow our boys and there has been interest from one Scottish club about Mantovani.

"He is good, but we can't lock down all the promising youngsters. Unfortunately, with the rules here, we can't put all our promising kids on contracts to keep them away from foreign clubs. We have no weapons."

This is a totally overhyped story. The boy is only a youth so even if he does sign, I wouldnt pin any hopes on him.

People see the name Rino Gattuso and get over-excited.

He wont play.

How many players over the seasons have signed for us, saying there going to be the new " so and so " .

And we dont even realise they left the club. Van der Boreck or whatever he was called, he left without many noticing. Danny N'guessan, we paid a fee for him and he left without a game. Theirs been a few.

Plus theirs no solid prove that its us thats interested. Think the paper is just making out its us, to get a story run on the Gatusso link. He just says " One scottish club " That could be anyone.

He was labelled superkid on this evenings radio.

My first thoughts are pessimistic when it comes to "superkid" tag: Another superkid at Rangers that won't get a game and most likely be released on his 3rd or 4th season having even had a sniff at the first team.

Optimistic: Fingers crossed this one is different, we get him and he's unbelievable.
