Let The Games Begin

By Andrew Dickson

CHRISTIAN DAILLY admits he is relishing the new league campaign as much as he did when he started his football career almost two decades ago.

The versatile utility man will embark on his 19th season as a professional when Rangers take on Falkirk at Westfield tomorrow.

His very first term came when he was just 16 and he was an aspiring striker with Dundee United.

Dailly scored in each of his first three games and that form led to him making his Scotland under-21 debut a few weeks later.

Moves to Derby, Blackburn, West Ham and Southampton followed before he ended up at Ibrox prior to the closure of the transfer window in January.

Time and experience have tempered boyish excitement and the Scotland cap's approach is more controlled nowadays.

But as Gers look to bounce back from their Champions League exit at Kaunas on Tuesday, he is just as eager to compete.

"I'm really looking forward to getting back into league football again," the 34-year-old said.

"There isn't a huge amount of time to rest and reflect on what you might have achieved in a season any more.

"As soon as one campaign ends, you are already looking forward to another. We have had a short break but now we're back to it again.

"Some time has gone by since I looked ahead to my first season of top-flight football in Scotland.

"I couldn't tell you how in many respects because I'm honestly the type of person who just turns up, gets on with playing and that's it.

"I don't look too much at difference between the game in Scotland and England or at how different football is now compared to when I started.

"But when you are 16 and taking your first steps, there is such a high level of excitement and adrenalin there.

"It is a completely unique situation in your life and I was very lucky to be at a club such as Dundee United when I began my career.

"I got the opportunity to play from a really young age and a long time has passed since I left there and went to England.

"For me, there is still a huge amount of excitement before a season starts. That is why I still want to play football.

"There is a calmer side to that now because I am more experienced and able to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

"With that said, while I know not to get too high or too low if I win or lose, the start of the season is always a good time."

Oh how I will laugh when he starts against Falkirk.

I think I would mentally breakdown if he starts against Falkirk..... I was raging on Tues night with his 2 mistakes that led to the set pieces for their goals

I may be the same. If i didnt i'd break down in a fit of tears.

I love how the likes of Weir and Dailly always come out with phrases like "I just want to play" "I still enjoy playing" etc.

Its as if we're catering to them. One last final season at the Rangers to win a few trophies and then head back down south with a nice fat cheque. :)

I really hope this interview was done before the game the other night.

That useless sack of crap should not be allowed to talk about our club

I was under the impression they were given new deals on the basis they were back up. Then Weir was made captain in Barry's absence. What the hell is going on?

its about one thing, smiths mates and he has his cock firm up his slack socket

Weir was originally brought in to "shore up" the defence for 6 months and fair enough, he did just that. He had a decent season last year as well but to give him another deal this year is just madness. The Davie Weir from two years ago looks like Obafemi Martins (pace wise) compared to the Davie Weir of today. He isnt even that good in the air any more.

The Dailly situation just infuriates me. Slowly but surely Smith wormed him into his plans, even dropping our one time player of the year for him.

Welcome to Walter Smith's Rangers, aka Short Term Fix FC.

Thats the thing, Hemdani has been dropped for him because Smith thinks that Dailly gives us "physical presence" which just goes to show how things are going.

Im a big fan of Hemdani and ill be the first to admit that his performances werent up to scratch last season. However, i honestly think that an off form Hemdani offers far more than Dailly.

to begin with i cant imagine hemdani givin away the stupid foul for the first and commiting such a basic lack of ball control to lead to the second........

Dailys cost us so much.

Cost us at parkhead, the 3-2 game. the 2-1 game, He was an absolute disaster, and now if he didnt boot that ball out for a corner we wouldnt be in this bloody situation.

Absolute tool that he is.

if he is on the team sheet tomorrow...... :willy: :willy: :willy: :willy: :willy: :willy: :willy: :willy: :willy:
