Wake up or we'll lose the title

MADJID BOUGHERRA fears Rangers’ slow starts in matches could cost them the SPL title.

Walter Smith’s side were caught cold by Hamilton Accies on Saturday when James McArthur fired the visitors ahead inside 60 seconds.

That came just a week after Hearts went two up inside the first 25 minutes against Gers at Tynecastle.

Bougherra insists it’s all down to lapses in concentration which he admits is not good enough if Celtic are to be caught in the league race.

The Algerian ace said: “It’s vital we don’t lose any more early goals. That has been a big problem and we will be working on that with the gaffer this week.

“We have to do better in the first 20 minutes. We must be on our game right from the start.

“Concentration is the problem. We have to get into the game quickly — make a good pass or a good tackle.

“We play Dundee United next and that will be hard because they are a good team and it is always difficult when we play them.”

Gers ended up romping to a 7-1 victory against Accies.

Kenny Miller eased the early nerves with the leveller after ten minutes and Walter Smith’s side ran riot.

But Bougherra reckons the timing of Miller’s goal was vital.

He added: “It was very important Kenny got the goal so quickly because if the score had stayed 1-0 for a long time Hamilton would have sat back.

“But we knew what we had to do and with the fans behind us we did it. Kenny started it and the team followed him.

“When Hamilton scored we could hear our fans were very angry. We are at home and we need to win every game because Celtic are in front of us.

“But when Kenny scored quickly, the crowd got behind us and we tried to play football. When we do that, the game is easy for us.

“The result was merited. We kept the ball all the time, we made chances constantly and took them. When we lost to Hearts a week earlier it was a different game. The pitch was very small and Hearts gave everything, while we didn’t play football.

“When we play football we score goals and we win all the time.”

Kris Boyd’s hat-trick was another major factor in this stunning win — taking his tally for the season to 17.

Bougherra added: “Kris and Kenny will score a lot of goals. Kenny is the kind of player who runs everywhere trying things while Boydy is a clever striker.

“In the 18-yard box, when Kris gets the ball, he’ll score 80 per cent of the time because he knows where the goal is.

“You can see the statistics when Kenny and Boydy play together.

“They have scored many times and they have a good partnership. That’s great for us.

“Jean Claude Darcheville is a different player when he comes in, but it’s good that we have a big squad and every player can come in and do very well.

“You look at Aaron coming in also against Hamilton. He did well and that is great for the gaffer because we have a lot of players who can win games.”

It's only something we've been saying for what, two years now?

Wonder when the players and management will realise that out set pieces are also Buckie Thistle standard.

Easy Papa mate, one step at a time - give us half a year to address this problem first. Then we can focus on our set pieces :craphead:
