Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady has been fined two weeks' wages and suspended for the next two games for a breach of club discipline.

McGeady was reported to have clashed with manager Gordon Strachan following the 1-1 draw with Hearts on Saturday

Celtic said in a statement: "Gordon's decision has the full support of the Celtic board of directors."

McGeady's agent David Holbrook said he was disappointed and told BBC Scotland that the 22-year-old would appeal.

Reports claim that relations between the pair are at an all-time low after an argument in the dressing-room following Saturday's draw with Hearts.

The return to Celtic from Aston Villa of Shaun Maloney has increased the competition for the wide berths with the Scottish champions this season.

Strachan has at times left McGeady, who has also been hampered by injury, out of his starting line-up.

The Republic of Ireland international will now miss the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on 27 December.

Earlier in the week, McGeady's agent had denied knowledge of any bust-up between the pair.

Check out the front-page splash on The Huddleboard. :D

As i said in the other thread, Pendrey has begged Strachan to get shot of McGeady from day one. I knew something was going to hit the fan after Burns died; he was the conciliator between Strachan and McGeady.

Massive news that could very well have a domino effect. The likes of McGeady, Brown, O'Dea, Wilson and McDonald are all very close.

classic kds banter

"Can I just say Strachan GTF you odeous little man. This is really depressing news. We lose McGeady and are left with an arse of a man, an arse of a man's assistant and their notepad! And for all the 'he's done 3inarow merchants', have you ever asked yourself why he's never been approached for any jobs in England since he last failed there?

Celtic as a football club are in decline, but don't worry folks , as a buisness we're thriving :nono:"

Strachan is an erse who continually embarrasses the club by poor public relations, and more importantly, poor football coaching/managing abilities. McGeady is one of a tiny handful of class players we have and, irrespective of his perceived or actual personality/ego, has proven it (at least more than many other players who never appear to be treated similarly by Strachan)on the park when played properly and alongside the most effective teammates.

But hey, no doubt Gordon will have his fans who attribute his managerial skills to our 3 in a row  and tell us he's a great man to have in charge. He is not - he is wasting our team by playing players out of position, treating them like kids, treating the media similarly, and showing the support contempt (at times, though not always it should be said). No doubt he'll have a master stroke in store for the h*** - like taking our most effective (though still limited) centre half and playing him in midfield at the expense of one or two of the only players we have who would be considered a potential player for the top 4 in England. Go Gordon go!! :ph43r: :ph43r: Our wee Gord takes good players and makes them average, average players and makes them poor!

Strachan's just signed his own P45 with this.

Rightly or wrongly, a sizeable section of the support will NEVER forgive him.

This disaster has been two years in the making, as Lawwell knows only too well.

I'm in tears of laughter reading the goings on over there. "Big Mick" is also in bother it seems. One of the "in the know" posters revealed that it was he who gave the Strachan/McGeady story to the press. They're referring to him now as "The Grass". :D

Also, you can't help but laugh -

Strachan is well within his rights to discipline any player, it doesnt matter who it is, pele or maradona. From all accounts mcgeadys performance on sat was woeful as was his performance against rangers that caused the first spat (even broadfoot was laughing at him). Just becuase he is a wondeful player doesnt make him immune from criticism. I dont know the real story behind it but i have heard that they ahve a love hate relationship and another source mentioned that mcgeady wasnt really injured over the past few weeks. But strachan wouldnt take a harsh stance against him for nothing , even if he is one of our top players he should start acting like it and recapturing the form of last year

Don't want to put a spanner in the works, but if he's appealing then he will play against us as when the appeal is logged he can carry on as normal until the appeal is heard.

In saying that, it does seem like a kangaroo court and could be dealt with tommorow and the same people will no doubt let the decision stick.

It just all depends on how long they will take in getting round to dealing with his appeal, I suppose.

this isnt like an appeal over a red card though, this is player vs manager,he might fight the suspension and fine but its still upto strapon who plays and hes not likely to coz strapon is a stubborn we bastard.
