My mate played under Butcher when he was at Motherwell. There was an incident where he was sent off in a reserve match for an absolutely ridiculous and out of character challenge, when summoned to Butcher's office the next day, Butcher didn't lay into him, he instead offered him advice saying "You aren't a real footballer until you get your first red card, son." Till this day, my mate has no idea what the hell he actually meant.
