I love the passion of the fans, be it at a game or a gig,

What’s the criteria for deciding whether you support River or Boca?

Is it a political thing, a social thing, or just geographical?

Not religion obv?

River are the posh team. Boca were historically seen as the team that poor immigrants aligned themselves to.

River were orginally seen as the club of the elite hence the Millionarios nickname.Boca support came  largely from  Italian migrants .The both clubs both played in red and white orginally and a game was played to decide who kept the team colours, River won.Boca on returning to their base down at the docks decided whichever flag the first boat they saw was flying they would adopt as their team colours ...it was Swedish hence the blue and yellow strip.I was at the 1998 semi final of the Copa Liberatores in the Monumental Stadium between River and Brazilian side Vasco de Gama...I do not think I will ever witness another atmosphere like that and that includes games involving Boca and Racing for example.I have been lucky enough to have been in the Maracana 3 times but it does not compare to the atmosphere to Argentinean stadiums.Penarol v Nacional in Uruquay is outstanding as well

River might think of themselves of the elite because of the ground is in a pretty middle class area called Nunez however the vast majority of their fans come from some of the roughest barrios in BA.
