What we need is to realise that WHATEVER version of TBB we go for, the same haters who've managed to maintain a fiction that our club had died in the MSM for so long, will be all over this chant making a mile out of every inch they can get.
TWO things are non-negotiable in order to retain the best bit of the chant: the atmosphere it generated.
    1. The tune.
    2. The line "Hullo Hullo we are the X boys Hullo Hullo ul know us by our noise
The rest is peripheral to the chant and must be tailored to bring:
    a. popularity/legitimacy with the fans
    b. minimal hassle towards the club/bad publicity
As long as these principles are kept at the centre of this thing, I believe it can work with the right support (TBO and UBs backing is essential)

To clarify the legal position would probably take a QC opinion at minimum so you are either going to have to ask the club to pay or add find raising to your committees tasks - bringing it back in a legally acceptable format is the only way the club can support this.

Something/someone kicked off the police action - I have no idea what that is, we have plenty of games where the police are NOT involved, but the police have a duty (note DUTY) to arrest people they suspect of breaking the law - now something happened, the crowd react and the police react further BUT the person (or people) responsible for last nights fracas are the ones who did 'something' that required the police to huckle them. As I said earlier just because fans create some great atmosphere and noise it does not give them carte blanche to break the law.

Judging by the various accounts by posters on this thread about what MAY have been the cause of the bother it appears nobody is in a position to be 100% certain of what actually happened.
As for the singing, I'm certain that some of the (parts of) songs tonight were considered inappropriate by the police under the anti-sectarian legislation now in place. If some fans were being arrested for that they can hardly complain. It is too late to change things now. Salmond was determined to introduce laws to win the catholic vote.
If people want to sing the old songs which are now banned then don't do it at Rangers games and don't wear Rangers scarves or tops.
I'm sick of idiots with "I'll sing what I like" mentality. Waken up and smell the coffee, you can't sing these words in public, it's illegal.

You started our little mini debate by saying we are defined by what others think - I disagree 100% - others may think I am something - but that does NOT make it so and I do not need to conform to a stereo type just because of someones perceptions of what I am.
Yes on a personal level we all make snap judgements on people - that is a fundemental part of human nature on a 1 - 1 basiis.
But mis-conseptions of group dynamics are just lazy judgements (which you would know if you had taken morethan a superficial look at the subject).
BUT my main point is that Rangers enemies may be Catholic, anti-unionist and anti-loyalist - (although I would say they are mainly either self seeking or incompetent) but even if a as Group, Rangers enemies were Catholic, anti-unionist and anti-loyalist - I do NOT have to be anti-catholic, pro-unionist and pro-loyalist to defend the club.AllI need to be is a Rangers supporter!

I believe the club suffered from the political/religious aspect during the newco saga. I don't believe the majority within the SPL Chairman thought it was right to remove Rangers from the SPL. However given the blood thirsty press and the campaigning by those with a hatred of Rangers, we suffered from being kicked out and entering at the bottom tier.
I mean that VB members who come across those of us that are not overly political nor have a huge religious attachment often disagree with a focus approach that VB put forward, and I feel from this thread that it appears as tho VB take that as an attack, when in fact it's just apathy and not wanting to get involved, or feel that we all need to stand behind something we don't necessarily agree with (although have sympathy towards)
Given neither you nor I have any clear statistics on the numbers who are active Protestants (i.e. more than a label given by a heritage) it would be pointless to debate it. However I would put forward the majority of Rangers fans come from Protestant backgrounds while not being Protestant themselves and dislike the overt Catholic agenda in Scotland. If I'm correct then most would prefer to just support Rangers and leave the religious conflict out of it.

I've not expected some to challenge me, and they have, with some valid points and I'd say it was a fair enough discussion.
I know fans won't leave their culture and traditions behind, and in many ways I respect that, but I really don't agree with that many of them at all. I don't particularly want to get involved in a discussion about that though, as it would lead us down a whole different route.
I just believe if the VB believe defending those traditions means only appealing to certain fans, I believe that's a bit sad, and a bit backwards, and I've got very little time for an organisation that would turn away great Bears' because they don't fit said mould. Could the VB be a bit more inclusive whilst still defending these traditions, but taking into consideration the views of a different "brand" of Rangers fan? It could most certainly be done, but it's clear they have no plans of doing this, and that's what I've challenged.

Allowing your self to be defined by how others see you (as per your starting statmement) is simply to allow allow others to think for you.
Do we need to be defined by how others perceive us ? Why not enjoy the sport and make your own mind up on religion and politics based on some thought on what is best and not becuase you think you should have certain views because someone else who supports a different team has a different view and you MUST take the opposite view.
It is not simply enough that we are a great football team - with a great sporting history?

So much wrong- or at least to disagree with in a short post.
Yes Iwas christened and baptised - but I had no say in the matter at that time - however I did go on to take communion at 16 (Like the good BB I was!) - but at that time I also believed in other unrealistic things as well (Like one day I would play for Rangers) BUT as I grew older I started to make decisions for myself rather than just do what was expected - I also came to realise that I would never play for Rangers and there was no god. Once there is no God, you stop going to the Kirk andyou stop calling yourself a Protestant - as to be one implies that belief in Kirk andGod!
We were started before them but many of our support (and many VB's) have said we only took on the Protestant mantle because they took or were wearing the Catholic mantle - so even many of the 'faithful' among the support admit we have allowed then to define us.
Yes people would like to attach their politics to Football - but given all the grief that is causing that just strengthens my belief that Football is better without politics - it is not only some of our fansI critisise for this but anyone who wants to politisise football. However the new laws that you are so up inarms against are the samenew laws that 'they' are up in arms against - and there are even some new laws that 'they' think are so bad the Catholic Churchare no longer speaking to the SNP or Scottish government. Hardly an example of religious bias.
Love the shallowness of the fact we play in Red White and Blue means that we MUST be unionists ergo the SNP must hate us - I give the majority of our support more credit than that and they will vote for the political party they see will do the best by them - and not make that desicion based on the color of a football strip!
I have NO issues with the VB defending our club - as I said earlier - we do not need to take political or religious stands to do so. Reflecting the OP speech, they have decided that to defend the club is tied to having to be Protestant, having to be Unionist - and that is nonsense! We can do that without having our politics or religion defined by others. There are people that hate our club (and there are people who are incompetent running our game) - these things need sorted BUT I do not have to start following a relgion I don't believe in nor take up politics I don't support to defend the club.

You have an inability to discuss anything without bringing your unionist politics and anti Scots sentimemnts into it - basically you are so entrenched in this you have lost sight of everything else. Thus your posts mainly speak pish and you are so intense about it you come acrossas rabid. Just my humble opinion

To be honest, I've not noticed him post anything racist.........although he had a pop at teuchters, which made me laugh.
If he is saying that the "A Fuckin Hate Roman Catholics" thread was anything but detrimental to Rangers FC & Rangers fans in general, then he's a fucking idiot though.
What sort of practising Protestant uses that sort of language anyway? A fucking hypocrite, thats who.
As an atheist, with Free Presbyterian roots, good teuchter blood, a love of Rangers and no faith or belief in any political idealogy, I have friends from all walks of life. I take each person as I find them. A cunt is a cunt is a cunt. There are black cunts, white cunts, pape cunts, proddy cunts, paki cunts, just as there are good guys from each of these groups too.
Political correctness is something I have no time for, but at the same time, mindless bigotry holds us back too.
As Rangers fans, far too many of our songs mention the enemy. WHY? These bastards are not worthy of our time or our voices. We should be singing in praise of our team & our glorious club, and singing it loud..............not belting out some pish about chasing fenian bastards everywhere, or BJK.
The Billy Boys, for example.....was never a problem, was on official club LPs etc, and never mentioned fenian blood or the like. This sort of thing needs to be hammered home to people.....and I hold my hands up as one who has belted out the bastardised version for 30 odd years, and still do.
The old club songs never mentioned hatred or fenians. We don't need to like these cunts, but do we need to sing about them?
