Does anyone know a Northern Irish Bear that was admitted to Tenerife Hospital (south) on Saturday 28th July with a suspected heart attack? It was our first day in Tenerife and my 4 year old daughter had an accident in the pool, luckily 2 nurses on holiday stepped in to give her mouth to mouth & CPR. We ended up in Tenerife Hospital near Los Cristianos in the Intensive care ward. We were assured that she was going to be ok but my Wife and I were still in shock watching the monitors and tubes trying desperately not to think about what nearly happened. That evening a man was brought into a bed near us. All I heard was a Northern Irish accent asking “Is that a Rangers top”. “Aye” I said. “Good man” the Bear responded. I could see the tears in my wife’s eyes as we just looked at each other and allowed ourselves a brief smile for first time in ages. Those two words brought us comfort, hope and left us feeling less alone in the world. We really are the people. No matter where you go, no matter what happens we are all one big family, part of something special and nobody can ever take that away from us. We were moved to another room on the Sunday morning and I never got a chance to speak after that although I sent the Wife along to tell him the Rangers – Brechin score. I just wanted to try and find out if the NI Bear made it home ok safe and sound. I also want to thank him for his kind words and encouragement. Also to let him know that my wee one made a full recovery and was back in the pool 2 hours after getting released from hospital. She did keep asking when we were going to watch the Rangers game (Brechin) but didn’t have to heart to tell her we missed it. If anyone knows this guy, please can you pass the message onto him. WATP
