  1. Yes, some really great players but they didn't all have outstanding displays at Ibrox. The display of Cruyff at Ibrox in the Euro Super Cup was unbelievable. Mario Kempes for Valencia a few years later was fantastic. Vasily Rats put in a 90 minute shift that was something else. Someone said in a previous post that it was hard to believe he finished on the losing side and I totally agree. Del Piero was another who stood out. My reason for choosing these four is due to their overall display over 90 minutes and contribution to their team effort. Some of the others nominated had some moments of magic but I feel that they maybe were not quite as good for the full game. On further reflection, I'm giving my final vote to Cruyff.
  2. Jasper!!!! Trevor Francis. His only "goal" for us was in a penalty shoot out at Hampden.
  3. Jasper!!!! Trevor Francis. His only "goal" for us was in a penalty shoot out at Hampden.
  4. Are we talking of players who played at Ibrox or are we talking of away games as well? It would be better to compare those who only played at Ibrox because not everyone will have seen the away games (I.M.O.). Need a lot of thinking on this although some great names already. Cruyff, Rats, Del Piero, Kempes. I can't think of anyone who played better at Ibrox.
  5. Exactly why are you so negative about Mr Ellis? Have you personal knowledge of the man and all his business dealings? I have no opinion of him at this time and I'll consider him innocent until proven guilty. I would suggest that all others take a similar stance.
  6. Both. Rangers and Azure both get a cut. (Azure is owned by SDM)
  7. It is time we all realised that it just isn't acceptable to sing some of our older anti-RC songs. We can all complain and moan as long as we like but in the 21st century it just isn't allowed. I know we have all sung the songs in question but times are changing (sorry that should be changed). Large sponsors, investors and the more public Rangers fans cannot be seen to support our Club until we rid ourselves of the problem. Sticking your head in the sand over this won't help our cause any and the idiots who shout "We'll sing what we like" are holding us back. I am no lover of the catholic faith (in fact I loathe it) but we play into their hands by giving them something to moan about. That takes the media attention away from the catholic church and it's history of abuse and discrimination. The words of most of our "problem" songs are not even the original words. We need to change them back. The "Billy Boys" tune is great the way we Gers fans sing it but the words have to change. I have 5 old Rangers vinyl LPs from circa 1968 and slightly adapting the words on one of the songs gives you a verse as follows: Hello hello we are the Rangers boys Hello hello you'll know us by our noise We follow Glasgow Rangers Our hearts beat strong and true We are the people Who cheer the boys in blue. We could still belt that out without UEFA or SPL/SFA or police having any objections.
  8. I've been going to Argyle House since it first opened and it has always been excellent (food and service).
  9. Yes I was also at that game, it was in summer 1969. (I'm now feeling my age big time). I hitched it down with my cousin and we stayed with a great aunt in Kensington. It did finish 3 all and it was a pretty good day out. Seem to remember the weather was really good. Marsh went totally ballistic. He was dragged away and off the pitch having to be substituted. Even though it was a friendly he should have been sent off. We couldn't believe the ref didn't send him off. Don't have a picture I'm afraid. Some of the photos are a stark reminder of some of the poorest signings we have ever had. Thankfully some of them never kicked a ball in earnest for us which saves further embarrassment.
  10. It is Bobby Watson but not the one you're thinking of. This guy was a reserve keeper.
  11. This is a different Bobby Watson (keeper).
  12. It is Bobby Watson a reserve goalie after McCloy and Neef. Ex-junior player.
  13. First the fiction: If we joined the EPL we would be ripe for some mega rich person to buy. You only need to see what happened to Man City who are nowhere near the size of RFC. Newcastle was the same to a lesser extent. Even Blackburn. The EPL gives the tycoons a high profile and they get noticed at every away ground which boosts their egos. Income from all angles would increase dramatically because our profile would be bigger. No need to pump up prices for fans although we would need to expand the stadium capacity. We would probably miss out on Europe maybe for 2 or 3 seasons but the current squad would be strengthened with quality players so we need have no fear about being outclassed by Bolton, Blackburn, etc. Really good players would be happy to come to us. Capacity crowds at a huge stadium. Bags of atmosphere. Playing against Chelsea, Man. Utd, Arsenal, etc, would certainly bring the top class players. To be honest, there are some pretty average (or worse) players in the EPL at present. First season you try to win at home and draw away against most teams. Obviously game plan changes as matches progress but Man U only won 5 away games and Chelsea 7 wins away. Liverpool lost 14 from 38 games and still finished 6th so we would need to be unbelievably poor to end up in the relegation mire. Then the reality: Can't see us ever getting in to EPL now because change needs perpetually relegation-threatened clubs to vote to include teams who could push them out the EPL. That is two thirds of the EPL clubs. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas. The Championship clubs would kick up stink as well. Only Sky could force the issue by threatening to withdraw their cash entirely but the EPL would call their bluff and other big companies would step in to buy the rights. It just isn't going to happen. If Scotland became independent ( please no...) that would hammer the final nail in the coffin. No point in looking at Welsh clubs as an example because both Cardiff and Swansea have been involved in English football for 100 years having worked up the divisions.
  14. I would like to see the Rangers name on a badge on the strip. Although I quite like the old RFC logo it means nothing to foreigners. When you are trying to sell merchandise to a larger market we need to put the name on the product. It makes commercial sense. I hate the Umbro mark and the Tennants name on the strip but they both pay plenty for the privilege.
  15. Sorry it's a bit late. Yep, you are correct. They were/are all RC.
  16. On the political side of things what do these dictators, tyrants and despots all have in common? Robert Mugabe Pol Pot (Khmer Rouge in Cambodia) Adolf Hitler Benito Mussolini General Franco Ferdinand Marcos (Phillipines) Papa Doc Duvalier (Haiti) Joseph Goebbels Heinrich Himmler Ngo Dinh Diem (Vietnam) Jozef Tiso (Slovakia) Napoleon Bonaparte Joseph Stalin General Galtieri (Argentina) Fidel Castro Answer in my next post.
  17. Just noticed your response to my post. Yes I had noted a couple of lines further up my post that the debt to Lloyds was paid. Perhaps you missed that. My comment about hoping we are going in the right direction referred to what happens in the future. We have Lloyds off our back but there are still unknowns to the takeover. As things stand at present, I am happy with the situation. I think that we all need a bit of reassurance because Craig Whyte is a bit of an unknown quantity. Not pessimistic just pragmatic.
  18. I was on the RFC website last week and in the Club honours section I noticed that we hadn't updated this season. Sent an e-mail and got a reply that someone would update it. They did add the League but forgot the League Cup win??? Club / History / Trophy Room and it still says 26 wins. There is a lot of incorrect or missing info and someone needs to get their finger out. It's a poor show.
  19. I know I wrote rather a lot but that was part of my point in my post at No. 18.
  20. This whole issue is a minefield. Not just songs but internet postings on web sites such as this. I believe that some of the likely proposals will breach our civil liberties rights. If I say that I hate catholicism or islam and I post it on the web, will that be deemed sectarian? I'm an atheist and have no interest in religion in general. I do, however, have a great deal of interest and loathing of the religions which would try to change the laws of the land to suit their agenda. Guess which religions in particular? That is not to say that I hate or loathe or despise all adherents to such religions. It strikes me that some of our politicians and some big-mouthed prominent unelected people have their own reasons for bringing in certain new laws. A definite pro-catholic lobby exists in Scotland at the moment. Salmond and the SNP are trying to win the catholic vote from Labour. The prominent loud mouths are catholics. People like Kearney and the RC hierarchy in Scotland have a chip on each shoulder. They are also using this sectarian issue to divert attention from their own organisation's failings and crimes. The history of abuse in the RC church worldwide would have seen any other organisation shut down. They are anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-contraception and discriminate against women. They seek to have their views made into law in this country. They promote sectarianism with their insistence on separate schools for catholics. The catholic church is not a democratic organisation but they seek to alter the laws and have undue influence over democratic countries. Will I be accused with preaching anti-catholic hatred for this article on the internet? One of the fundamentals of everyone's human rights and civil liberties is freedom of speech. That also covers the written word. To quote Voltaire: "I do not agree with what you say but I'll defend to the death your right to say it". This is clearly not the view of our MSPs. The "Famine Song" was a prime example of ridiculous, hysterical and groundless accusations of racism. Eight words " The famine's over, why don't you go home?" How anyone could deem this racist in the context used by the Rangers fans beggars belief. That decision was made by a supposedly educated senior judge. Unfortunately there was no-one to argue the point that it wasn't directed at all Irish people, not even all southern Irish people but simply the "other lot" from the Meccanodome. We all know why it was aimed at them but there was no-one to put the point to the lawmakers. It was simply a wind-up ditty. We are now likely to see a purge on supporters from both sides with the majority of arrests being from the Rangers camp. I asked the question of RFC, "what is not allowed?" and was told it was anything to do with FTP and also "the Billy Boys". I'm not convinced that that will be the only songs deemed arrestable. What about "The Sash and "Derry's Walls"? "No Pope of Rome" will certainly fall into the unacceptable category. "We are Rangers super Rangers" will probably be outlawed if the words "fenian bas**rds and we'll chase them..." are sung. Will singing "if you hate NL clap your hands" be considered sectarian or inciting hatred? What about the the all-inclusive term "abusive"? I note that this was mentioned in the media. There are an awful lot of ways to look at what is considered abuse, particularly in Scotland. What will be acceptable and what will not? This issue and the proposed legislation is opening a proverbial "can of worms" and I for one think that the side of reason needs to be represented in the early discussions before anything becomes law. I do think that some of the words need to be changed on both sides but a knee-jerk law is not the answer. There is sufficient legislation in place to clamp down on what is clearly unacceptable or abusive. To be honest, I am more annoyed that someone calls me "a bas**rd" than if the word "orange" is used as an adjective preceding it. We certainly need clear and concise information on what is now likely to be considered an offence.
  21. Reckon he is probably on holiday. Think most of the players will be off now. Go up to Murray Park and ask.
  22. His salary is available to see on RFC website. Its in the Club's accounts. It has a bonus package which is results based. 2004 £289k, 05 £235k, 06 £527k, 07 £357k, 08 £668k, 09 £468k, 2010 £633k. Lawwell at the San Giro got £739k in 2009.
  23. I'm still waiting on my renewals (3)but it usually takes a while. Same every season. I only handed them in on 12th May. There is no need to panic.
