So what if we go out to Maribor, sack Ally, and the new manager has a terrible first 5 games? 3rd new manager before Christmas? Or does a new manager bizarrely deserve more time than Ally?
A lot of people are saying this, so i must be watching a different player Granted i didn't watch the Malmo away game, or the game last night, but i thought he was absolutely awful against Hearts, Malmo at home, and St Johnstone, and average and reckless against Inverness
I said this the other day Between 2003 and 2006 we seemed to make around 8 signings every single summer, pretty much all of them being on free transfers or costing a nominal fee, and very few of them actually improving our squad to any great extent I actually preferred the Walter years of a small, settled squad
Yes The team that ended last season looked so promising and only really need 2 or 3 additions; a centre half to replace Weir either this season or eventually, an attacking midfielder to replace Weiss, and a striker to challenge or replace Lafferty Instead we spent £1.5 million on a position we didn't need to strengthen, signed 3 centre halves and made bids for at least 2 more, signed 2 central midfielders who seem likely to be shoehorned into wide positions, and haven't strengthened the attack at all I also don't believe that any of the 3 centre halves we've signed are as good as Bougherra
Sacked by Newcastle for almost single handedly ruining a squad that Bobby Robson had taken to 4th, 3rd, 5th in the previous 3 seasons Hasn't managed for 6 years Naw.
We've lost 3 of the members of our very successful defence of the last 3 years Papac and Weir are still here, but are highly unlikely to ever be regulars again (at least not in defence in Papac's case) Instead of pinpointing proper replacements, Ally seems to simply be trying to sign as many defenders as possible and hoping some of them succeed
With Walter leaving on a high, it made perfect sense to give his assistant the job Don't kid yourself that had we appointed someone else, he'd be being backed to the hilt just now
We already have more than enough players capable of playing centre half in a 3-5-2 Papac, Wallace, Whittaker, Broadfoot, Goian, Bartley, Bocanegra, Weir, Perry
Ally will get the season, unless we're 4th or 5th in the table at Christmas Given Lennon was out of both European competitions by September last year, it's absurd to write someone off on this basis
The bad performances hurt me. The bad results hurt me. But the actual status of saying 'we're in the Europa League' means very little to me. Not being in it wouldn't affect me at all once the annoyance at the performance wore off
There's absolutely no chance that Ally will be sacked if we lose next week Lennon did the exact same last season and was given a new contract 9 months later
Let's not kid ourselves about the value of the Europa League If we lose to Maribor but win our next 3 league games, people will be saying 'Europe was a distraction we didn't need' It's shameful to see how far we've fallen in Europe, but most fans stop caring about it the moment we're out of it
