  1. Why the rush? Take time over the next few weeks to open the permanent post up, and see who comes forward. It will be a major backward step to appoint McLeish, even on a short-term basis.
  2. I see that McLeish is already being strongly tipped by various media outlets. He always had a set of tame journalist buddies cheering him on, through thick and thin, as I recall. Some of the Scottish bunch were outraged when we decided that his time was up.
  3. Agree - opening it up for applications over a limited time period would make sense. And McLeish and Davies are dross indeed.
  4. Surely any appointment of a DoF would have to depend on the type of a manager we go for? Some managers are more likely to work well with a DoF hen others. To appoint a DoF before the managerial situation is resolved would be mad.
  5. I expect to see Kenny M take on a big leadership role on the pitch (and presumably off it too).
  6. Fair enough, but we won only one game in that group, scraped through by a single point, and went on to draw the next two games in the knockout stage (and be eliminated). Strangely enough, we actually expected more than this in those days. The draw against Inter broke the club record of a streak of results without a win. The style of football was generally dire. His record against Celtic was atrocious. But he was, and still is, one of the 'good old boys' beloved of the Scottish sporting media. A hugely overrated manager whose correct level was Motherwell or Hibs. If we appoint him now, we will regret it.
  7. This is assuming that King is telling the truth, of course ...
  8. I was delighted when he left. A very limited manager in the tactical sense. The style of football we played under him was grim. In those days, we aspired to moving on to the next stage in Europe, and he was never going to be good enough to help us do that. To appoint him now would be a backwards step.
  9. Yes, but that gets me back to King - a businessman of his experience should surely have been up for a game of hardball, especially given the fact that £700k means more to us than to Forest?
  10. It's possible, but in the end the other club dropped the deal anyway (or so it seems). If the other club was Forest, even allowing for their current state, they will still be spending far more on players in the months ahead than we will. Yet they weren't prepared to pay £700k compensation?
  11. King is desperately trying to keep the fans on board because of the season ticket renewal issue. I take anything he says with a large pinch of salt. He has a major dilemma now. How to produce a managerial appointment that will encourage people to renew the tickets, while spending next to nothing.
  12. King's statement says that they were offering to resign without compensation. If they were resigning they would not be due compensation anyway. He then goes on to say that the Board agreed not to take any compensation from the club they would be joining. Why on earth would we turn down this money?
  13. Two questions: If King is such a shit hot businessman, how come he was prepared to waive the club's right to compensation running into several hundred thousand pounds? If it is true that Warburton and Weir resigned in the early part of the week, and these resignations were accepted 'with immediate effect', how come Warburton was taking the Friday press conference?
  14. Typical King statement. Some of it true, some of it bluster, some of it reeking of fish.
  15. The second statement will just be to correct the crap use of the English language in the first one.
  16. Amongst the many things I don't understand about this business - if the story about Warburton and Weir being ready to leave and go to Forest (or wherever) is true, why would King waive the club's right to compensation, as is claimed in the official statement?
  17. It will be King telling us he has found a pot of gold in the land of the unicorns, and he'll bring it back as long as we renew our season tickets.
