This is the type of signing that follows what the player trading model should be. Great to see it happen so quickly too. Paint wasn't even dry on the rumours section and goes to show nobody has a clue all the names were looking at

I know the point you're trying to make, but wouldn't use no one having a clue about this boy as some kind of insight into how well guarded we are over targets.

  2. We've been buying McLean for about 7 year, should've got him back in 2018 when he went down to Norwich, was always a very decent player, could've had a similar impact with us as Amrstrong had with them around that era.

He played 54 games for them last season and started 53 of them, I know they've changed their manager but that doesn't look like someone who wouldn't be wanted, you'd imagine even if the new manager had his eye on someone else for his role, there's so many games down there that he seems like a reliable experienced guy to have in the squad just in case.

    Fair do's mate. All opinions

Aye, that's all it is mate, I know plenty won't agree and that's fine, I think when some folk don't gush about certain players it can look like they're trying to be controversial for the sake of it, that's why I ended up going into a long detail on it, so maybe others would get where I'm coming from, even if they don't agree.

  4. Won 8 League titles and 3 European Cups for Liverpool and captained them for four seasons and could barely get a game for Scotland...

Would understand if Scotland were getting to quarter finals and the odd Semi of tournaments but we couldn't get out the group stage of World Cups and never even qualified for the European Championships during Hansen's career, madness.

  5. This is the future of Scottish Football, us and them will be the only two traditional clubs left, everyone else is fair game to be some EPL club's feeder team.

I'm no even saying that as a criticism, because it might be the only way we can get a League again where it's more than just us and them that are capable of winning it, but I worry long term, if the bubble down there ever bursts, all these clubs could go to the wall.

That cunts no got a scooby, followed him about 10-12 year ago then realised the only things he reports that are right are stories other people have broke.

That valuation tells you he doesn't know a thing about Scottish Football.

Half the bheast team done it when fat boy came in. A few games to bed in and then they ran away with it.

No reason why our signings can't do the same...

They signed more seasoned pros that season than they had in years, no so many projects, but still took them a good while to bed in during that first half of the season, think they were in 6th place after the first 10 league games, and had been knocked out two Euro comps before Christmas, getting PTSD again about how we should've been out of sight before they got their act together.

Even O'Riley was out of their starting XI for a fair bit last season so Postecoglou could play Mooy

I'd liken Diomande more to Aribo, it took him until the winter break to really get to grips with the week to week stuff up here, but after that he was a different player altogether.

  8. Scottish Football is hard, it's 100mph, very physical, a midfield 5 sitting in front of a back four, it'd be more unusual for someone like Diomande to hit the ground running week in week out from the off, he's young and still has plenty of developing to do, but I think we seen enough in him to believe this 4/5 month run will do him the world of good next season, there'll be less of a culture shock and the more he gets used to how teams play, the more he'll find ways around it.

Did Lovernkrands ever score anymore against them after the 2003 league cup final ?

Think that was his 7th  against them in about 2 years at that point but don't think he got one after that

Always turned up in Europe though

That was his 6th and last goal against them, scored five of those goals in 2001-02.

Never scored against them at Ibrox, four at Hampden.

What a fucking season that was when he signed for us, him, novo, boumsong, andrews, sell boumsong in winter, replace him with a loan for kyrgiakos, lose klos to an acl injury, sign the mullet on a freebie, resign fergie and bring in buffel,

Win at the piggery for the first time in 3 years was it? Then helicopter sunday

When mcleish did it right, by fuck it was brilliant

5 years, first and only time we beat them there under O'Neill and it was in his last home game against us.

    Wow

Come on man, the most technicaly gifted player to have played in the UK possibly never mind Scotland. And we got to watch him week in week out live.

If we're talking about someone who was here for 4/5/6 seasons and had a bad season then fair enough, happens to the best, but the reality of Gazza was that he was off it for almost as long as he was on it for us.

I go into far more detail in the post above, don't want to spam the thread saying the same thing.

I know what you mean the entry requirements get diluted every year, but a Gazza was special

He was special for the first 18 months, and if he left after 18 months I probably wouldn't disagree, but the next 15 months were anything but special, and when you consider that is more or less half of his time, that's why I don't consider him a legend, just my own opinion though.

Gazza scored 39 goals for Rangers, 34 of those goals came in his first 65 games, that's a bit more than a goal every other game, which is a phenomenal record and one that I'm glad I saw in person.

The next 15 months saw him manage just 5 goals in 39 games, which is just about a goal every 8 games, thats some drop off, his life went to shit at the end of 1996, his drinking was always out of control but it started affecting his work, his personal life was in tatters, constantly missing training, gaining weight, picking up more and more injuries due to how he was living his life, it all left a sour taste for me.

At this time of year when an international tourny is about to start, and England announce their squad, loads of twitter accounts always bring up Gazza's exclusion from France 98, I'm no sure whether people simply don't remember how far off a cliff he fell from his Euro 96 days, but absolutely no-one in Scotland was surprised when Hoddle didn't pick him, I still don't know how Murray managed to get £3m off Middlesbrough for him in the March that year, that was a stereotypical name value signing from them.

  13. 2 hours ago, The Archer said:

FFS if Lee MCulloch etc are Rangers legends then Gazza without any doubt is among the true Rangers greats

😂😂 if that's the criteria then fair point well made, but as much as I loved Gazza, and thank my lucky stars that 1995/96 was one of the seasons I attended every domestic game, I just don't think 18 months is enough.

  14. 21 hours ago, The Archer said:

Love him a true Rangers legend and a world class footballer, met him quite a few times in Cameron house in the 90s a very very decent lad who just wanted to play football.

No sure he can be labeled a Rangers legend, he had a great 18 months up here, but he fell off a cliff near the end of 1996 professionally and personally and never recovered, we got the last bit of magic from his career in those 18 months but no sure if that's enough for legendry status.

Going by the performance of Grant Hanley last night Souttar should absolutely be making that squad st the very least. However the fact that no current Rangers player is in the squad is more on us than Clarke. Realistically apart from Souttar which other Scottish Rangers player should be going? We've been abysmal at producing youths and regularly turn our nose up at bringing in Scottish talent from other teams in the league.

Ewen Cameron said on SSB last night it was more of a fitness based decision than an ability based one.

Still can’t get my head round why they barely show any games from Ibrox or their midden.

You want to showcase the best stadiums and crowds, but instead we have all the shitey away grounds instead with 20% capacity.

Sky would show every home game of us and them if they could, but in 2018 when it went out to tender, the clubs had no interest in going beyond the four home games a season, thats the real reason the TV deals are so shite.

Sky wanted to show upto six games from each venue but the SPFL (the clubs) wouldn't even entertain it, Rangers and them don't want too many home games to be broadcast live, thats why this new deal is 20 games, 2 home games from the other 10.

Between Sky/Premier Sport next season each club apart from us and them can have seven games shown Live, so hopefully that means we won't have anymore weekends where our away game isn't on, think since 2020 there has been three away games each per season where us and them haven't been shown Live.

So the £10 million is definitely over the 5 seasons? Just seems weird that they're picking up 20 games a season for 2 million while Sky get 60 games for 30 million. Pathetic deal if that is the case.

The 20 game deal doesn't include any games from Ibrox or the Piggery, plus with Sky also picking up an extra game from each venue in their 60 game deal (5 up from 4), then there's a good chance there'll only be one or two games involving either of the Old Firm.

They'll have a couple of Edinburgh derbies, a couple of Dundee derbies, probably four Aberdeen/Dundee Utd games, couple of Kilmarnock games, couple of St Mirren games, maybe a Motherwell game and they'll likely show some games in the relegation battle, 2/3 million quid for games not including us or them is about the price the SPFL is worth.

Last year we got about £11 million from Castore - that’s the amount in the Accounts I’m sure. However I’m sure we calculate it differently to most teams where they include the full amount in their Accounts. Where as Castore take care of all the costs and pay us our figure which is net of costs. The £34 million for the scum is top line where as our figure is net of costs like distribution, shops etc.
Hopefully we get improved terms next year when our merchandising is up for tender as we’ve had 5 years worth of sales to bargain with where as previously to joining Castore we didn’t have the figures due to the boycott of kits. 👍🏻

Good info mate, cheers, I wouldn't expect there'll be too much difference between us and them, but not being listed does make you wonder why we calculate it differently to everyone else.

  19. I just saw a report on transfermarkt, apparently from UEFA that the tims generated the joint 16th highest revenue and kit merch in Europe in 2023, earning €34m.

They've only listed the top 20, we aren't on it but 20th are Inter Milan who generated €26m, so at best that's at least €8m more they earned than us.

Does anyone know what we generated?
