  1. Probably the simpler version ....... No? .....
  2. Sad times mate ..... condolences to you and yours .... stay strong.
  3. Monty Don or Percy Thrower ...... or could it be the late great Geoff Hamilton? ......
  4. Yes you are correct, he was playing half back even centre half, or inside left for us for years before he eventually slotted into the centre forward position as he signed for us in 1955, and the 1959 Denmark tour was his chance as Max Murray was injured at the time, we won 4-0 and Jimmy got the lot, what a break, and this proved to be yet another great signing by Scot Symon. Thanks for that mate as it confirms his earlier playing position, all the above is mostly from my Dad and Uncles telling me we had another great scorer on the way, and reading what I could find. I'm slightly too young to remember having seen him in his other positions for us, but clearly remember having had the pleasure to see him in his now famous centre forward position, but knew he was once a half back. He was one of my favourites, and I was sad to see him eventually replaced by Forrest (But not that sad when Forrest started to bang them in regular) as you don't really want your favourites to leave the side, and think they should be there for ever and a day .... even now in my advanced years, I hate the fact when a great player has to leave us, some things never change ..... For a relatively small man (5'6") for a centre forward, he was one of the best climbers and header of a ball we have ever had, and boy could he find the back of the net, not to mention the lay-offs to his scoring partner Ralph Brand ..... if only we had him for Monday's game, I would be delighted.
  5. Correct he used to be a half back in his early days at Ibrox, and he was signed as one from Dunfermline in the 50's.
  6. Not named after any player ........ and when I quizzed my dear father as to why not ....... he replied ..... "Sadly there wiznae any cunt called Fanny playing fur uz when yu wiz born my son" I loved that man ...... as only a son can love his father ...... but unashamedly loved The Gers even more for not signing any Fannies ...... For what it's worth I did at one point own a Mini ....... of the Cooper variety ...... what else ......
  7. You have proved my belief ..... as I said I hate to miss out anyone of our players who for some reason or another we unfairly tend to "sideline" for another. Probably for another thread but .... one of the best forward lines I had the pleasure of seeing would include some of your favourites. Henderson ..... McMillan ..... Millar ..... Brand (who could forget Ralph) ...... Wilson. Great memories from that line up as you no doubt know mate.
  8. At times I have to pinch myself as i remember all the greats that I have seen play for us, such as Caldow, Smith, Jardine, Cooper, (hate missing out anyone) up to the present, and of them all, the one who will always stand out for me will be the late great Slim Jim Baxter. No other will come close to him, although Laudrup in my estimation must be the closest to this all time hero of mine. Older players we have been blessed with that I wished I had seen would be Symon,Thornton, Mieklejohn and Woodburn (for all his faults) and the likes of English, Gillick, Morton and Waddell ...... But I could go on forever all the way back to 1872 and back before I would really be satisfied I had seen all the greats who have served our great Club. But thanks to the OP for starting a decent thread, that has all the relevance required for springing great memories to the fore. The Rangers will forever be associated with greatness and great players, and as said above ....... I also can't wait for the next great to appear and give us more wonderful memories.
  9. Merry Xmas to all Bears & Bearettes and a happy New Year.
  10. Another good article Dude, great read and a few good points brought up.
  11. Good one mate ...... can't fault a thing you say ...... if it's right, why would I?
  12. MW plays them so easily it makes you less irritated by their shit stirring questions. He spent about 30 seconds swatting aside any regard about Stubbs thoughts on how we feel about them ......... and the remainder of the interview fielding the rest of their drivel. His answers were honest, firm and to the point, no bullshit ...... no fawning or slobbering about how good the opposition is ...... just the correct amount of justifiable respect and no more. Just what we have come to expect from a proper manager who backs his team ...... and points out their faults in equal amounts for balance of opinion ...... not covering up or making excuses, but rather facing up to criticism with integrity. This man deserves all our support as he is a real breathe of fresh air ....... the likes of we have not experienced for a long time at our Club. The game on Monday will be the start of our push into the second half of the season, and is important ........ but not in anyway a league decider ....... no matter the score we will win this league outright ....... I have no doubt of this. Come January, if the board cough up the readies for new talent, we will see the necessary players in place for the final push towards entering the premiership.
  13. Totally fantastic mate ......... It really is heartwarming to see what most would call normal, make such a difference to our veterans quality of life. So glad to be a small part of this great Fund.
  14. Top post mate ........ I am of the same thoughts as yourself.
  15. We have had this type of thing tried over many seasons under the previous managers , and it has been very rare that it transpires into a successful conclusion. MW does like players who can fill more than one position on the field, but first and foremost he prefers someone who can fill the position in the first place rather than using the square peg .... round hole method. Shiels is an attacking midfielder and he is better suited there, and i don't think he has that physical presence required for a CDM. So no from me, and hopefully in the January window the management bring in the defensive midfielder required to fill the spot ....... along with a proven striker who can convert the myriad of chances we have thrown away ..... even in games we have walked it in.
  16. You must have borrowed MW's magic hat ........ but then you do have your own magic mate ........ you probably have Popeye arms after wrapping all those presents ......... well done GB.
  17. Don't forget to put Hoosier's new Bearette's name on the back of the shirt GB ...... at fund member rate ....... naturally I have had it confirmed by my native American friends, that she is to have her name written in the sky over Atlanta and will go by the name of ....... Small Moccasins ........ which when translated means ...... She who is slightly smaller than Ian Black ....
  18. Beat me to it Bud ........ totally agree with your sentiment. PS:- I do also agree with the post above colloquially put over by TEFTONG ..........
  19. Correct ....... A holding midfielder plus a proven striker to come in, in the January window, is all that is required to make the 4-3-3 system operate efficiently ....... to chop and change the whole philosophy that covers all of our teams is knee-jerk thinking, and would be counter productive in the long run.
  20. He doesn't miss a beat, and is now being more determined in shutting down any unwanted questions from the very start. Good PC again from MW, nice to see someone is keeping up the standards at these meets ...... as the hacks don't know what standard means ...... JH's PC was OK, if slightly predicable, and he did well with the low level of questions directed at him as best he could, he seemed a wee bit irritated but who wouldn't be with this lot.
  21. Me too Bud ...... and yes it is an artificial pitch at Falkirk.
  22. For me it is all about getting a win, so no score prediction, just hopefully a win ....... convincingly or ugly ....... don't care, just 3 points on the board will do.
  23. The worst manager in 138 years ....... the worst 3 years The Rangers have ever had to suffer under him ....... the football has improved 100% since W&W have been in place these last ± 7 months ........ in a purely footballing managerial context he was a disaster. That will be his lasting memory to most Rangers fans who have the sense to be able to differentiate between his time as a player, and his time as a manager. Both are totally different, and can not be sensibly used in the same context to cover up or excuse the facts of the different roles. Sadly AM has let himself and the Club down with his inabilities and dubious behaviour, when employed as our manager, for the majority of his tenure. His only saving grace was his involvement with Green in securing that titles were not deducted ....... and even that good result has been withered due to his other questionable behaviour as our manager. So basically to answer the OP's question ........ the above is some of why most people have not mentioned the anniversary of his Gardening leave, as it is not relevant to anything other than opening old wounds and memories of a very dark and dismal time at our Club.
  24. This post just needed to be bumped ......... with a "Smile" ....... ......... good post and so accurate mate. Never forgive Never forget.
